That season they were routinely drawn against the worst team left in the competition while the better teams were busy being drawn against each other and knocking each other out.

I remember them playing rostov or similar that year, drawing the first leg 1-1 away. That sycophantic prick michael owen was in the studio and called it "the perfect european away performance" and justified that statement with them getting an away goal and not losing.

That is the level of pure stupidity that bt/sky/bbc etc encourage their pundits to lower themselves to in the cause of keeping that scumclub relevant.

These are the same pundits who insist that Pep has failed at City because he hasnt won the cl with us, after all, that was the only reason our owners wanted him. Its quite clever really because they can call us failures and totally ignore and devalue our domestic siccess at the same time.

So are they encouraged to keep us not relevant at the same time? seems like it sometimes.Cant wait for the day we do win it, they will all(apart from one or two) shit their pants big style.

Absolute nonsense that a team knocked out before the knockouts, or not good enough to qualify in the first place, goes into Pot 1.
But I suspect it was the only way they could sell the tournament to TV companies for a decent price
And also perhaps an insurance policy for G14 wankers like united and Inter
UEFA can do whatever they want. Despite City winning the PL, they were put into CL Pot-2; all to do with the coefficient bollocks. Leicester win a couple of years later, straight into POT-1, "Rules have changed"

You mean Sky Sports, BBC Football, The Guardian and the Mail haven't been going round anti-racism groups to see if any of them would give a quote on Cavani?

Sky and BT haven't asked current players in the after game interview what they think of Cavani's post?
Still nothing from the FA coming up 2 weeks WTF ....he will play a part in the derby now any other team excluding red ones he banned .
Just don't understand this in the current atmosphere.
PS we will jump them on Sat.

For us to be accepted we need the media onside. How we do that is anyone guess. Rinse and repeat dogma since 08.
We have always been the outsiders. What really brought it home to me was when as a youngster we won the league at Newcastle. The BBC cameras of course were at Old Trafford for the United v Sunderland match (supposed to be a coronation for the Rags)
The first person interviewed on Grandstand when the results came through was Matt Busby (who to be fair was totally gracious in defeat) then they went to Newcastle for Joe Mercer.
And naturally we were the second game on that night's Match of the Day with some grainy highlights from St James's Park. They didn't even televise our European final victory live two seasons later.
The media in the UK will never be onside. Pep has used their hostility to galvanise our team's morale. We may be a rich club but we are still anti-establishment, just like most of our belligerent fanbase. I love it.

Remember the 68 title win like it was yesterday, I was 11 at the time. Matt Busby was totally gracious in defeat and he and Joe talked like old friends with great mutual respect. Joe wished Busby good luck in the European cup with obvious sincerity. Such a contrast to Ferguson's grudging words In 2012, mind you think it was a nicer world back then.

You couldn't meet two nicer people than Matt Busby and Joe Mercer and I was lucky to meet them both as a youngster. Ferguson poisoned the well in Manchester, a city he never understood in my view.

The last paragraph sums city up nicely.

IMO the club has tried to play nice and fit in with the elite but were has that got us?

The vitriol that was spewed from the media before, during and after CAS was a fucking disgrace. They tried really hard to destroy the club.

I find myself conflicted as I would like the hard work and achievements acknowledged but as you have pointed out bowing down and being accepted is not in the dna of a city fan.

Getting a little worried by the media just lately. So much so we might have to get the SOO project going again. He must stay at the wheel.

Most Mancunian Rags (at least the ones I know) thought the Tevez "Welcome to Manchester" poster was funny. Ferguson just didn't get it which tells you a lot.
It’s because the man is an arrogant bully who believes everyone should do exactly as he wishes, that’s what makes him tick.

They were neighbours in Chorlton.

That clip with Mercer and Busby talking after we win the league is proper heartwarming stuff

Well the rules were changed. Are you suggesting they should never change the rules? The old system gave too much to the ‘European Royalty’, putting United, Liverpool and Chelsea in Pot 1 every year.

A couple of seasons earlier Borussia Dortmund were in Pot 4 (I think) of City’s group, despite being German Champions. Ajax were in Pot 3 (?) as Dutch Champions. Real Madrid were in Pot 1 and City in Pot 2. That put the Champions of three of the top four leagues into one group a long with the Champions of one of the stronger Leagues.

With outcomes like that, it was no surprise they changed the rules. I would have preferred the old rules even though it went against City in the past. City would be in Pot 1 every season they qualified.
