A bit of misreporting on German lockdown.

their shops and hairdressers are closed but they have more generous rules in place for households to meet that allows two households to meet and extended further between 24th and 26th December.

ignore media claiming that uk Christmas freedom is in contrast to Germany

Why schools? Robbing young kids of education and social interaction because of a virus that for the under 60’s has a 99.5% survival rate. This country is fucked because of scaremongering like this.
When an area goes Covid-19 high schools are the multiplier. 30% of cases are generated in school settings and it goes higher when a local area epidemic takes off.
Schools in tier 3 need rapid testing. Twice a week for everybody at the school. Those who test positive should isolate and get out with a proper test 3 days later or for 10 days.

What did he say ?

Basically Burnley, Acrington and Preston will keep all of Lancashire in Tier 3.
Bury, Prestwich and Ardwick will keep Greater Manchester in Tier 3.
Stratford upon Avon - with the lowest rate of any town in the Midlands will be forced to stay in tier 3.
Etc.
It's effing stupid.

With respect, that’s nonsense. Easy to say if you don’t have kids of school age.
Agree but there’s definitely a discussion to be had about universities. Certainly, it would have seemed unfair to be stuck in university halls paying rent but not able to have the usual experience.

not sure what the answer was though as you can’t defer everyone a year as there’s too many students wanting to enroll next yearp

Yeah, I agree that universities is a separate argument altogether. I was referring to what she said about schools.

Greenwich schools forced to close
Statement from Danny Thorpe, Leader of the Council:

I’m writing this open letter to let you know the situation in Greenwich in relation to Covid19 is now escalating extremely quickly and I have today been briefed by colleagues from Public Health England that the pandemic in Greenwich is now showing signs that we are in a period of exponential growth that demands immediate action.

We now have the highest rates of infection in Greenwich than at any time since March, and for these reasons I have therefore asked all schools in Greenwich to close their premises from Monday evening and move to online learning for the duration of the term, with the exception of key worker children and those with specific needs (exactly the same as in the first lockdown

all schools and uni's should have been shut ages ago

The term 'schools' is far too generic. Primary schools have absolutely no need to be included here.

Easy to say close schools and unis when you have no children in either and dont understand the consequences of such actions. Schhooling and uni work cant be done anywhere as well on line. No decisions in this pandemic are easy. Same as shutting some businesses and not others.

112 drunken mancs coming home after their "substantial meal" in Liverpool by train this evening.

Happy drunks mind. Travelling from tier 3 to tier 2 for a meal must be classed as essential travel.

They do that and the whole rest of the country will kick off.
They're telling regions their will be no negotiations on the tier system but changing the rules left, right and centre to keep London Central open.
Absolute farce if this goes ahead.

I see after all this time, all these deaths, all the financial mess that too many people are continuing to look at 'the rules/recommendations' as a thing to push to the max rather than doing as little as possible.

Until the thought process of these people changes, a really easy example is the tier jumpers we'll continue to be fucked. I'd suggest these people are more dangerous than uni or school kids.

I was out walking yesterday and saw a mate by chance. I mentioned the Covidiot / football lads alliance types being opposed to wearing masks, social distancing etc. He said it was ironic that last year these peole were only too keen to wear scarves covering their faces but it is unacceptable for them in a pandemic ffs.
