None are isolating at my daughters school, only 1 class since this’s school year started have been impacted and that was reception. So not all schools are the same as yours fortunately. They are shutting my daughters on Friday rather than next Tuesday and opening a bit earlier in Jan. I for one am pleased that the government stood strong on this despite pressure from the unions who wanted as much time off as possible.

my lads been in all term. Invaluable after the disruption earlier this year.

A huge 7000 rise in England alone today.

26,000 more tests but that is a huge increase in England.

Those case numbers are alarming. I’ve noticed in my town that as soon as we come out of lockdown and back into Tier 2, the numbers have started rising again.

Basically only full lockdown gets numbers lower but the last one didn’t get them low enough and was therefore too short. We could well be back in full lockdown by 2 Jan as the hospitals will come under pressure again.

Its a difficult balancing act with the needs of the economy and people’s livelihoods against the health implications.

Company are thinking tier 2 for West Lancashire.

Announced tomorrow, reopen. Saturday.

We have a 48 hour lead time for orders from our main supplier.
We are East Lancashire and I feel we’ve been in lockdown since March apart for couple of months.
You‘re going to have your work I put out if they give the go ahead.

GM highlights. Up as you might expect. Stockport go from best to one of the worst with its highest in three weeks. Sorry Elise bad day here.

Not alone. Only two places fall. One is Wigan to ensure we have 9 boroughs sub 100 today.

But at 794 that is actually up 169 on yesterday and is 1 up on the 793 last Wednesday.

So could have been worse and other parts of the NW up too.

Sorry Andyhinch your Tier 2 days are likely to be ended by those people from GM who went out there over the weekends to bend the rules. Big rise there today too.

Oh but Liverpool also up. To heir first total over 100 in quite a few weeks. At 105.

There is VERY good news from the above.

The rise in GM is significantly below the rest of the NW and so the % of GM from the NW fell to its lowest ever percentage today - just 37%.

I wouldn't put it beyond this government to secretly have decided to let the schoolkids get it, knowing the vast majority are thankfully not seriously ill with it?

Teachers were asking three weeks ago for schools to close a week early, if nothing else, just so kids and teachers weren't isolating and could enjoy their own Xmas week.

They went for the populist offer of a Christmas where families and people could travel and meet and are now trying to walk it back.

Yet, keeping the kids in school works perfectly for these twats. So many being sent home this week to self-isolate.

My son has over 70 isolating at his school in the last 48 hours alone.

Kills two birds with one stone, pardon the phrase...

The mixing of households is suddenly reduced over the period in question, all under the guise of kids should remain in school.

Like I said, wouldn't put anything beyond them.
That sounds like planning...
Sadly the DHSC and PHE couldn't run a piss up in a brewery. Our civil service is unserviceable.

My dad got 48 hours notice, his turn tomorrow.
Are they in the at risk categories or the 80+ group? My old man has had 2 heart attacks, high blood pressure and diabetes (he's a little overweight but has never been fat in his life) is nearly 88 and heard nothing.

And the worrying thing is, 9 months into this crisis, only full lockdown seems to work. The one thing WHO advised should be a last resort, and Boris said wouldn’t happen again.

My mum is nearly 82 with lung cancer and has heard nothing. She hopes she’ll be pretty soon.

Tin foil hat time.

I reckon the government have perused a 'soft' herd immunity approach since the start. The lack of conviction in their leadership, leaving everything vague and ambiguous and perceived slowness to react/ignoring scientific advice simply aren't the characteristics of 'successful' people.

My Mother is 82 had a pacemaker fitted recently reasonably fit but has issues, not heard nothing yet. I really hope NHS are not getting choosey.

As noted in my summary above Stockport aside (fairly big rise there) GM fared better than other parts of the NW and it was not the disaster that the near 7000 extra cases today infer,

A rise of just 169 of the 6928 increase in England numbers today.

But there are warning signs as there have been for days.

Coming out of tier 3 as I have been saying here for a while now would not imo help. We are going up by the looks of the last few days. Christmas will expedite that. Tier 3 might mitigate how big that rise gets.

But if those who want it get their wish and come twelfth night we are back where we were in October and two month's full lockdown follows it will not save the lives who will still die over the next few weeks from the impact of those two or three weeks. And it will not help the economy shut down for more long weeks into Spring.

It is a tough ask to stay in tier 3 I know. And its not a certainty it will help. But we are less likely to turn our good position now into a third wave true and proper if we see where we are in early January before jumping into this 'freedom' that might be both ill advised and short lived.

It might make more sense then with the winter nights to come and Christmas over.

Just my opinion obviously and I know why many disagree.

The lack of communication is worrying and the Doc's won't give any info whatsoever apart from "please don't contact us", it's a worrying time for the elderly. I appreciate it's a mammoth task but I fear for my Dad as do all people in the same situation but with the vaccine available it's an agonising wait.

Seems like they are rolling out the general public over 80’s vaccinations sooner than we thought?

This early it was supposed to be care home residents and health and social workers only wasn’t it?

Same here.

It is good to hear that people are looking forward to being vaccinated so much. We should all encourage each other to get it to help us all out. It will have a ripple effect at some point. My Mum and Dad are forever in and out of hospitals so we are already a bit safer in that some healthworkers have had it.

One agonising weekend my Dad got a call to say that someone who had treated him had Covid19 and that was not nice at all. If he gets, my Mum will get it of course. Fortunately all was well. It's like Russian roulette this.

While I agree with some of what you say about this government being a shower etc
I think having had my kids at home for months not really learning because we’re both working, it really is important to keep them in school.
It’s a difficult balance and doesn’t please anyone.
The London thing is a disgrace though, they have pretty much waited until Christmas holidays to introduce this to limit impact to london
Fuck London it’s not the only place that matters

Path of least resistance is a Boris trademark survival strategy.
