I’m a stickler for the rules. No food, no beer. Simple as that.

Half of the nation have stopped following process and just do whatever they want.

But it’s starting from the top and having a piss weak government with no bollox just sets the wrong tone
You can moan all you like about how the viral hosts police and organise themselves but this is of little consequence.

Whilst I have consistently said I feel GM will benefit from staying in tier 3 even though by the rules set for it arguably it should not be - I do fear that this will look like a political decision and we will hear yet more about how great Merseyside are and look at them to see your way out.

Nobody is going to believe that unfortunately. Even if it is untrue (and it may be) they have fallen into a huge trap that creates the widespread impression they are punishing some regions and rewarding others for reasons that have little relation to the science or the rules for getting out of tiers they set themselves.

That is the real problem they are creating here by doing this. It will drive people who might not have done into misbehaving out of a sense of unfairness that they will seek to rebel against.

Its another reason I have always supported lockdown and the same rules for all not tiers which I see no evidence do anything but drive division and increasingly leak the virus as people can and will do if they perceive they are being punished.

You only get real compliance if we have a spirit of unity and all in it together not one of division and perceived unfairness which will erode any benefit the tiers might potentially bring.

They just did a BBC report from Otley where local pubs on one side of town face ruin but the others over the border are all open as they are in North not West Yorkshire.

How stupid do you have to be to think that dividing somewhere like that is going to make everyone who lives over this arbitrary line just stay home and not go to the places that are open.

This has nothing to do with politics. It is an obviously flawed concept that makes no sense in a small country like the UK where someone could drive to almost anywhere for a meal or a drink in an hour or two if they wanted to do so enough.

I do get why people are angry over this decision but it is the safest for the next week or two before things change - as they will. You might see the sense come January.

And imo the Premier League need telling to stop fans allowed in just some grounds. It is creating an obvious unfairness and makes this season even more of a meaningless money making exercise than it already mostly is.

Footballers are not playing as they used to because they are human beings not robots and - hello - there is a global pandemic on and they are putting their families at risk meeting many people day after day all over the country and the world.

This is the reason we are having such a strange season.

But it is very simple that these tiers give an edge to those able to have fans and there ought to be a vote that it is all or none not just the chosen few.
Wish I shared your optimism.
I don't see a lot of next year any better if I'm honest. I reckon you won't be able to go places unless you have been vaccinated, holidays abroad, restaurants etc. What if you don't want the jab? what will happen then?
Certainly January-June I've written off. It's absolutely never ending.

Agree. I spoke to a Doctor the other day who did my flu jab and he said don’t expect much change until next Autumn as getting 25m plus vaccines done is a huge logistical job.

I think they should focus on getting more accurate instant tests developed for things like travel that you can buy at the supermarket or wherever.

It would make living more palatable and allow people to go about their lives without worrying that half the plane have got it.

How will you prove you had the jab?
That much touted card held up by the Tory dickhead in charge of Covid response was in fact no more than a reminder to get your second dose!

If GM had gone into tier 2, would anyone have had any confidence booking anything? I certainly wouldn't as Id have expected us to be out of it within 2 weeks. My son was looking at holidays for Spring yesterday and I immediately said 'Dont. Just wait' And Im someone who usually has the whole following year booked up. After battling to get refunds for flights, accommodation, plays/shows etc over the summer I am very reticent to look further than the next few days.

I will have it - just putting it out there, I reckon a large part of the population won't have it and that's there right.
A lot question the legitimacy of this whole thing, again completely understandable.

What’s that got to with my post.
I’ll have it.
If an airline or restaurant want me to prove I had it how will I do it.
The govt have already ruled out covid passports.
Tui have already said they won’t require the jab to book with them.

I don’t think there was a lot of confidence we would go into Tier 2 but the people who entered the raffle for Newcastle on Boxing Day were happy to give it a go mate.

I am not fussed about Tier 3 and I’m afraid Tier wouldn’t have been very profitable for businesses as pubs and restaurants only had a few days to trade before Xmas.

The politics of this stink with the Tories using Merseyside to get one over on the rest of the North. Less people will follow the rules as a result.

Looks like the return to school in January won’t be delayed, but will be staggered for secondaries.
