Liverpool thread 2020/21

I fully get that others have a different opinion, but it is just that opinion...something formed by our lives and experience.
I loved watching Souness in his pomp and accept he was a top class player. Did well in Scotland and rebuilt Rangers. Maybe me being dismissive...OK very dismissive...but that was Scotland!
I think he did nothing really when he came back to Liverpool. The whole Sun interview thing coloured my view of him as did his whole politics and love of Thatcher.
I appreciate that he has apologised for the Sun interview but I still have that knowledge of who I see him as.
As a pundit I see him in the same mould as Keane, or dare I say it Neil Warnock or Eamon Dunphy, there to be contentious, to "say it like it is".
Much as I hate to admit it, I actually like Neville as a pundit
So basically you don't like Souness because he did an interview with The Sun 28 years ago after he had undergone major heart surgery.
Like you say it's all about opinions and in my opinion that's very cult like behaviour.
If it looks like a cult, sounds like a cult and acts like a cult it's usually a cult which sums up your club and fans and their attitude to everyone who doesn't conform with your mantra.
It's also ironic that your lot bang on about hating the Tories when your club was founded by a landowner who became Tory Lord Mayor of your own city.
This is someone who has won trophies as a manager in 3 different countries and as a player won everything at club level and played for his country in major tournaments.
As a pundit he is universally respected and an interview with The Sun almost 3 decades ago discussing his health issues doesn't make him a bad pundit.
I won't even go there with Neville as the mask has slipped far too often with him to have any credibility, in my opinion of course!

I'm amazed that he's still here to be honest... If I spouted some of the stuff he does on RAWK i'd be fucked off in an instant

Not simply the interview and not simply him being a "Tory" as it was more the Thatcher leanings which were maybe different from other "Tory" ideas. It's all part of it along with how I thought he did when he was our manager. All that together alongside my view that Fab won the ball cleanly.
But then aint this the joy of the game we both love? the fact that it can produce such discussions...as long as thats all it is!

Did make me chuckle as think I am the furthest thing from a WUM on here...(for a dipper that is)...but then I am indoctrinated as a cult (that's a L not a N)

That's the difference between bluemoon and squawk though as you're allowed to think for yourself and have your own opinion in here.
I wouldn't lower myself to go on squawk but from what I've heard on here it sounds like a gathering of The Moonies.

That's fair enough but I think you're bang wrong about Souness as I think he's very fair and objective.
Everyone is biased towards their own club but he's professional enough not to let this cloud his judgement unlike the majority of so-called pundits nowadays.
I remember him losing it a bit the day that Stevie slipped on his arse and we beat Palace in '14 but besides that I think he's been very balanced.
Fair play to you for sticking by your guns and yes, it's cult with an L not an N.

After watching quite a few of their games where they’ve looked jaded, last night was the first time I’ve seen them at full tilt this season, which seems strange when they are playing 3 games a week.

Let's just admit they havent dropped as many points as we would of liked them to yet considering there injuries

They’ve dropped 11 points from 13 games; that’s probably more than we could’ve hoped for really at this stage. The problem is that we have completely failed to take advantage and already find ourselves adrift.

We really haven’t taken advantage of it sadly. The league was there for the taking but city have let it slip. We have let spurs, Utd & Liverpool gain ground again. Who all have been poor. Says so much about us this season

A Littlewoods fan at work said to me this morning, without the slightest hint of irony, "Those bastards (the rags) get away with everything!"

As he walked away, I thought, Just like your lot.

Think I actually got off fairly lightly from my comments...so many thanks folks.
As was mentioned about Souness & The Sun but also, whilst he may be objective, I tend to disagree with him most of the time.
I have to agree with you about the majority of the ex Liverpool players acting as pundits. The exception being Murphy who I actually rate, but the rest I will give a miss to and often will change channel to get a different pundit / co-comm. Particularly if it is Owen...he really can send you to sleep (Similar to Warnock)
Apart from the fact that he is ex-Littlewoods, I have absolutely no idea how Warnock managed to blag a job as a pundit.

He didn’t exactly have a stellar career at Klanfield, and he is just fucking awful as a co-commentator.

With the massive amount of football now on the box, the myriad channeles available they all need pundits and it is easy money for many of them. Totally agree that there are many "stealing a living". Talksport is coming down with them now (McCoist/O'Hara to name but 2)

One bonus with multiple channels showing games it at least you can pick who you listen to.

Got me thinking of past pundits and always liked what Pat Nevin had to say and as a commentator/reporter, although spoiling with what came out later, I always used to love hearing Stuart Hall reports.
