Maybe, if he takes off the childish 'ignore' he can question Kulinski's PoV on it.
I'm not asking about viewpoints in the UK.
I'm specifically asking how an AOC agenda - if you view it as pragmatic (in the sense that a candidate with her viewpoints might win a Presidential election) - can possibly succeed near term in the USA.
I provided the current election map as a basis for discussion.
Disclosure - I endorse many of AOC's viewpoints - I am however a capitalist - and as you've correctly inferred - I do indeed live in the USA.
I suspect the incoming shitstorm with the environment getting increasingly more volatile will force a lot of the policies she has been talking about much more into the US conscience. The new green deal is based on keynesian ideas, and they were something capitalists jumped all over when they realised they could use to benefit themselves.Cool, but I am guessing a lot on here are in the UK so will have a slant on the politics different to those posters in North America hence my post.
AOC and others of similar ideology are not radical by any standards, but maybe slightly too radical for mainstream american politics, for now to garner widespread nationwide support.
But there is always hope one day that will change.
Climate change is the major issue facing the world at this time IMO. It looks to me as if the only practical way forward is nuclear power.I suspect the incoming shitstorm with the environment getting increasingly more volatile will force a lot of the policies she has been talking about much more into the US conscience. MarvellousShe's great, isn't she?
Her and Jacinda need to rule the world.
UNICEF condemns New Zealand’s child poverty as inequality grows
23 September 2020
The annual UNICEF Worlds of Influence Report Card, which ranks OECD and European Union countries in terms of child wellbeing, has placed New Zealand near the bottom of the 41 countries surveyed: 38th in terms of child mental health, 33rd in physical health and 23rd in children’s academic and social skills, averaging to an overall ranking of 35th.
So the article, the one I found anyway, says the top 10 in that was filled be Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Finland, Spain - maybe all their leaders deserve a “free ride” instead?Marvellous
Yay! Let’s get this worldwide!
When are are going to stop giving certain politicians a free ride because they say the right things on camera?
Of course she’s going to say that.So the article, the one I found anyway, says the top 10 in that was filled be Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Finland, Spain - maybe all their leaders deserve a “free ride” instead?
Ardern did say those outcomes were more a reflection of the previous administration’s decisions - which admittedly you would expect her to say, but it’s doesn’t mean she’s wrong. She has been in power since 2017, so it’s a valid criticism I guess. Says her govt has invested over $3.5bn on addressing child poverty.
Just trying to add some context to your post mate
I’m not necessarily disagreeing with your conclusions there, I don’t know enough about her tbh, it was just that your post prompted me to look it up, as it goes against what we might expect from NZ as a country, regardless of left or right wing.Of course she’s going to say that.
Every administration in the history of politics that falls short blames the previous one.
The bottom line is, she’s been in power 3 years, which is an entire term there and has failed on the child poverty front, don’t take my word for it, UNICEF have condemned the country, after a full term.
Yet, because she says the right things, people want her to run the entire world? I know we’re in the era of Trump and “get Brexit done” and people like a persona rather than actual results but the left are also guilty of ignoring the facts to make themselves feel better.
She’s spent $3.5bn in 3 years? The Tories spend £12bn a year on average in our country. Of course they have a far greater population to deal with but that’s £1.25bn when converted. The Tories spend £12bn a year x3 = £36bn. So the UK government, you know the Tories, have spent over 30x on child poverty than Ardern has in her term.
We have a population 13x bigger than them but spend 30x more on child poverty through public spending.
She’s overrated.
I’m not necessarily having a go at her, she’s done a decent job with Covid, albeit with a population smaller than Scotland, over two separate islands equal to the size of Britain together. But she acted quickly and promptly.I’m not necessarily disagreeing with your conclusions there, I don’t know enough about her tbh, it was just that your post prompted me to look it up, as it goes against what we might expect from NZ as a country, regardless of left or right wing.
To clarify on those numbers, the Guardian article I was reading quoted 3.7 billion US dollars (5.5 billion NZ dollars), but it didn’t specify over how long. Where is that figure that UK govt spends 12 billion pounds a year on combating child poverty from? To be clear I’m not doubting you, I just had no idea our government had a programme like that.
Check your facts. The data on which the UNICEF report was based covered the period 2008 to 2017. Before she even took office.Of course she’s going to say that.

I don’t want to keep going on mate, as this is the AOC thread, I’m going to tag you in the Ardern thread now, with the part of the article that’s important to her term.Check your facts. The data on which the UNICEF report was based covered the period 2008 to 2017. Before she even took office.
We failed too then according to the report you referenced.Of course she’s going to say that.

Yep precisely. We failed too then according to the report you referenced.
I kind of agree but you know I have a lot of time for Jacinda and what she is trying to do re politics round wellbeing outputs rather than economic ones. Its difficult to know exactly when the data from that report is taken. It can be as far back as 2016 for the (for example) poverty information so lets see what happens in the next couple of years. I like OAC too and its hardly surprising that both of them get a good press. Both being young, open and refreshingly honest in their views. They have achieved a hell of a lot less than other world leaders like Merkel and the South Korean lady, but maybe their time will come.Yep precisely.
Its a shame people still promote the very ordinary, if not below par, because they say things they agree with.
