COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Extra police officers are being deployed at railway stations to stop people from making non-essential Tier 4 journeys after passengers crowded onto trains in London to escape the tightening of COVID-19 restrictions.

Transport secretary Grant Shapps announced on Sunday that British Transport Police would have an increased presence following Saturday night's chaotic scenes

Horse. Door. Bolt.

Sadly the England hospital deaths now leave no doubt wave 3 is here. A much bigger rise than expected after three straight weeks of falls to only 159 last Sunday.

Today it is 266 - higher than any Sunday number in months.

North West not that low either, which is a concern.

Not funny, people are unable to see anyone at Christmas, it’s all ruined for them and some idiot makes that meme.

Worse TV show I’ve ever seen, now I’ve got a new reason to hate it. It’s just immature kids trying to be funny and people watch it for some reason.

If you were in tier 4, would you find this funny if someone else posted it?.

I have been in tier 3 for months and seen my family maybe 4 times in 9 months from a distance.

Jokes about Manchester being lockdown have been thrown about all through that time so no I wouldn't be upset if the piss was taken, as it has been being done for a while.

And this is where a lot of the apathy to the SE and London is stemming from, the total hysterically outpouring of whining about tier 3 last week and now tier 4 like the world is over.

We have all been sufffering for months, sometimes a but of leviety helps, for some

For those genuinely not coping my sympathies are fully with them.

I have some close friends whp are not coping at all with any of these lockdowns and being stuck in mostly, and I suppprt them as much as possible so don't suppose I am insensitve to peoples feeeling, I do not know you or your situation and if that pic really did upset you then my appologies.

Went to play tennis at the tennis centre next to the Etihad earlier. Looks like they're setting up the vaccination centre there rather than at the stadium itself, according to the woman who works there at least. They've taken over most of the centre with a view to starting vaccinations at the beginning of January.

I suffer quite severe asthma and am on the CV list, I was told when I checked that I would not be due the vacine until march at the earliest bit more likely sometime in Apri.

Gonna be a long roll out and patience will be needed by all.

I have been told as I work in education I will be getting tested in the new year thpugh, not sure if a one off or a regular thing mind.

What other Government plays PR games like this regarding a major announcement of a vaccine approval?
In the States for example the public were kept informed at all stages of the approval process for the Pfizer Vaccine and the announcement of the second Moderna vaccine was also kept quite low key.
Only here do we have an advance leak to a Tory friendly newspaper, then a period of silence which leaves everyone guessing followed by a massive flag waving announcement which is frankly embarrasing.
We have every reason to be proud of the AZ Oxford vaccine (which could ultimately be the most effective globally) but confident countries don't behave in this needy way.
Have a look on the previous page about how Sturgeon is using the pandemic for political gain.

Yes the US decisions on the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines were timetabled around meetings. Our / the MHRA approval was as soon as the assessment framework was met satisfactorily and a press conference could be set up. Pfizer approval happened earlier here so it wasn’t as big a story for the States, as approval was more or less inevitable.

England hospital deaths 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v TODAY Total / NW total / NW %

208 / 32 NW / 15%

195 / 37 NW / 19%

159 / 24 NW / 15%

266 / 44 NW / 17% TODAY

So that is a very big rise in deaths but pro rata only 19% of the increase was in the NW. So slightly concerning but less than it should be regionally.

Sadly with the population of the southern regions now bearing the brunt of this third wave these numbers are going to go higher over coming days and weeks until we manage to flatten it off in January hopefully.

Any real impact on the NW will be later as we have to see cases rise and hospitalisations and ICU beds going up first.

I expect we will be in full lockdown soon and this might help mitigate the impact in the north but there are some harrowing weeks to come unfortunately and we are far from out of the woods.

I know this is hard for any government to manage but I do think we have not helped ourselves with the way we have reacted slowly to many things that were apparent up front were critical and needed urgent attention.

Not the time for recriminations. That will come. Right now we should be convening an all party war cabinet to make joint decisions as the mess of multiple messages is going to kill people in coming weeks.

I agree about Sturgeon.
Her handling of the pandemic has been about at the same level as Johnson's i.e. poor.
But for what it's worth she communicates and handles the PR better and she has the advantage of a more sympathetic political base.

Other details of the 266 England hospital deaths:

Age ranges 40 - 59 (18) 60 - 79 (100) and 80 + (148)

They were aged between 42 and 101 and all bar 7 (aged 53 to 90) had no previously known underlying conditions.

Other regions Midlands 75 East of England 46 (only regions with more than NW who have tended to under report deaths on Sunday - hence my concern).

Others 38 NE/Yorkshire 30 South East 23 London.

Lincolnshire 15 and East Suffolk/North Essex 13 the only trusts in double figures.

Liverpool with 8 the highest in the NW.

Tiers don’t work, I live in Portsmouth we are in Tier 4 ,because our QA hospital can’t cope . 5miles up the road is porchester who are in tier 2, the pubs are open and shops etc and they use the same hospital.

My mates have left Portsmouth and gone to porchester to the pub today.

Based on your profile, there are between 12,305,865 and 18,074,125 people in front of you in the queue for a COVID vaccine across the UK.
Given a vaccination rate of 1,000,000 a week and an uptake of 70.6%, you should expect to receive your vaccine between 16/03/2021 and 26/04/2021
