COVID-19 — Coronavirus

What I do suspect is we are not just witnessing the worst pandemic in modern history but the final years of the United Kingdom. I am starting to think the UK will fracture after this is over as one of the very first things we should have done is create a war committee cabinet and treat this as a national fight with the same rules for all on these islands.

Party politics and nationalism means zilch to this virus. Not seeing that - or more probably - not being able to do that for nationalist reasons - was a massive error.

That will become apparent and drive division so wide I find it hard to see the UK surviving AS the UK in its current form.

Not a political argument just a significant consequence of how politics has made the obvious impossible to do with serious repercussions that we cannot allow to happen again.

As there will be future pandemics and nobody knows when. But likely not 100 years from now as global travel has prevented the speed of transfer being a self limiting factor.

We are actually lucky that this virus is not as deadly as it might have been. We will not always be that fortunate.

You might be right, but the chain of events which lead us here started with the referendum in 2016. The pandemic is just another part of that chain.
I agree but this is not the place to discuss it. The impact of fractured policies on the pandemic is what concerns me. As it has compromised our ability to make joint decisions.

And ironically the one time we did - for Christmas - was a big mistake that even now is stopping Scotland going into lockdown days earlier than I suspect it would, Wales too probably.

Why would anyone want sports cancelling when they have been done so safely with barely any issues. Supermarkets should be shut before they look at professional sports and revert to delivery only.
Barely any issues? Orient had to forfeit their game against Spurs, Ipswich called off games as have Peterborough. Newcastle have two players suffering from long covid, Sunderland called off games, Mahrez and Laporte caught Covid, England's cricket tour curtailed, various rugby games called off. That's off the top of my head and we have no idea what has gone on behind closed doors. We need to restrict movement of people for a few weeks and having sportsmen criss cross the country isn't sensible. We are travelling tonight to a tier 4 area where supposedly movement is already restricted yet becuase they are so called elite sportsmen they are allowed. It's madness. Shutting supermarkets might not be a bad thing but how do people eat? Delivery is feasible as they just don't have the capacity to deliver to to all. There are about 28m households in the UK and less than 4m deliveries per week available. You do the maths. Back in March, April and May supermarkets were very strict in the numbers they were letting in and asking, begging in fact for people to shop alone and not come in groups. Since June,July that's gone out of the window and now it's like a free for all except that the majority are wearing masks.

Think my old man got it. Just rang me and he has been sick all night and feels dreadful.

has anyone else been sick with it?

A GP friend and a friend who works on GM emergency planning have both predicted another lockdown....it’s been a truly horrific few months

One thing I spotted yesterday that I think is also a bit of a signal about the speed this is moving. the map on the gov website has added a new colour, a few weeks ago this maxed out at 400+, now has 800+.
