Bloody well done Oxford University and AstraZeneca!
“
Having studied evidence on both the Pfizer/BioNTech and Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccines, the JCVI has advised the priority should be to give as many people in at-risk groups their first dose, rather than providing the required two doses in as short a time as possible.
Everyone will still receive their second dose and this will be within 12 weeks of their first. The second dose completes the course and is important for longer term protection.
From today the NHS across the UK will prioritise giving the first dose of the vaccine to those in the most high-risk groups. With two vaccines now approved, we will be able to vaccinate a greater number of people who are at highest risk, protecting them from the disease and reducing mortality and hospitalisation.
The JCVI’s independent advice is that this approach will maximise the benefits of both vaccines. It will ensure that more at-risk people are able to get meaningful protection from a vaccine in the coming weeks and months, reducing deaths and starting to ease pressure on our NHS.”

Well done Sarah Gilbert and all involved. I remember her boldly telling the select committee in the early summer that she would deliver the vaccine, but she had serious misgivings over whether those in charge would deliver on the logistics. She’s upheld her end, so any cock ups now will be unforgivable.
I remember her family members taking the vaccine when most people would have shied away. The people who participated in the trials (including the original Oxford 500) and all the scientists involved, have done everyone a big service.Well done Sarah Gilbert and all involved. I did say unlikely and accept some will.Lascelles and Saint-Maximin at Newcastle may disagree.

COVID-19: Newcastle United's Allan Saint-Maximin and Jamaal Lascelles suffering long-term effects from coronavirus
"That long-term COVID is something which you wouldn't think possible in young, fit, athletes", manager Steve Bruce said.news.sky.com
mate i can understand your anger, wtf was she thinking? i guess she didn't thinkAbsolutely fucking raging! The ex wife who is a teacher and her partner who is also a teacher had 14 for Xmas day from 4 households. They also had a separate family around on Boxing Day. My wife and I did not see our parents on Xmas day. The kids obviously come between both houses. The ex has now lost her sense of smell and taste and her partner is ill and her mum who has major health issues a cough. All awaiting test results. The selfish cow - I am so angry I feel like calling the school. She has placed me at risk and my dad (I do his shopping) and my wife’s parents through her total selfishness. I am so bloody angry.
I got my flu jab at my local GP tactics yesterday. Everyone being vaccinated was allocated a minute so the nurse could get through large numbers of people quickly. GP bodies are asking for extra staff to be funded to roll out the Covid vaccine as quickly as reasonably possible. There has been a huge increase in people eligible to receive the flu jab this winter and record numbers have had it. This didn't involve any special measures and it was delivered by the normal routes...hospitals, health centres and pharmacies. The vaccine jab is just as simple to administer so with the large scale centres being set up all around the country we should be able to do huge numbers very rapidly. It is far simpler than testing people too.
