I'm not defending him, but it is being blown out of proportion.
Sounds like he was having a family party with people within his household and his girlfriends mate and boyfriend came.
No ideal, but also not totally reckless. Stupid, yes.
The others turning up later probably caught wind and tried it on to get in.
