“The work of God”?

So all the people who believe in God are weak and should be pitted because of their beliefs and everyone else is right in their beliefs he never existed. Even though most people pray to the almighty when are loved ones are ill or dying.

Correct.

Being mildly "religious", for example believing in God but never wasting your time with rubbish like going to Church, praying etc, may be harmless enough.

But anyone going beyond that is wasting their life on nonsense, and that is deserving of pity IMO. You only get one life and wasting it on a lie, is a big shame. And if the bug really gets you and you end up being a monk or something (or a terrorist) then that takes it to a whole different level.

The world would be a whole load better a place if we got rid of this mumbo jumbo altogether.

If your god is Omnipotent, Omniscient & Omnipresent, then he knows everything, and everyone's life is pre-ordained. Praying is merely a desperate plea to get him/her to change his/her mind.
