Coronavirus (2021) thread

I'd like to know who is running the distribution, recordkeeping, site location, informing people when it's their turn and where to go, when each band should have been told (so they can speak up about being missed out).

The questions about the vaccine science have been covered a fair amount, I'd say. SOuth Africa? Theoretical, but unknown as yet.

These journalists are absolutely useless. All they are trying to do is get someone to say something so that in four weeks time they can say ' but a few weeks ago you said....'. Ask some proper questions you muppets. I wonder if Boris is as pissed off with the stupid questions as Pep his with the ones he gets asked in his pressers

Like this thread - remember when Hancock set the target of 100k tests. People were wanking when he just about got there or not! It was a joke.

Just said exactly the same to Mrs sf.
Negativity is what they want and they think it sells more papers, gets more clicks.

Greater Manchester summary

Down a massive 590 to 1152. A huge chunk of the NW regional drop because yet again elsewhere has it worse.

Pretty much everywhere down - though Stockport again had a relatively poor day even though it fell and is I think at present the problem child of GM.

The GM % of the NW total falls to a remarkable 21.8% - bearing in mind when GM entered tiers in October and Liverpool was given preference because of the testing and that they were lower than GM then that GM was up to about 53% of the NW total.

The reverse is now true.

Liverpool today had the highest number I have ever seen there. It is quite possibly the worst place in the UK today and its Pop Score rise of 145 versus Manchester's of 43 tells you all you need to know! Basically 3 or 4 times worse on Merseyside than in GM.

They are paying a hefty price for being 'favoured' by the government unfortunately.

Liverpool today had 720 cases and the Wirral also up to 386 and a Pop rise of 119 between them were almost the same as the entire Greater Manchester total.

Despite the big disparity in population - GM over 2.8 million to Liverpool & Wirral about 1.2 million

You just know a committee of several dozen non front line health care people have come up with that list, over a period of mths. IE managers. It would be funny if it wernt so pathetic lol

The Virgin flights are probably freight only
They don't put freight flights on departure boards, it may not fly, but it is scheduled at the moment, I've seen other replies saying we've stopped direct flights so hopefully, but we're still getting flights from other areas of Africa, so direct flights alone won't stop transmission.

I looked at going to France this week for a couple of months in a remote mountain village.
You have to download and fill in two forms before setting off. And you are only allowed in to the country unless you have a residence with a right to be there or travelling for essential purposes from a French made list.
On top of that you need a negative Covid test within the last three days.

Kiboshed our plans to fuck off and return when it’s all over.

Should have gone in November when we first thought of it but Mrs didn’t want to miss Christmas.

I thought the Daily Mail man asked the right questions (what is needed to hit the 13 million), but was probably after more specifics than the broad featureless response.

If they get anywhere near the 13 million, the acceleration will have to be impressive. That's 2 million/week starting from now, and that makes the vial filling/QA the limiting step. It's 300/day per site on a 7-day basis.

I would not be surprised to see a comment from the NHS heads about the announcement about committing to it - that didn't seem to be the position yesterday, so expect either confirmation or clarification. Maybe 'committing to' is actually 'hope to' rather than 'guarantee', but that's not what is going to be understood by some who hear it.

No questions about teachers being promoted up the order yet, when it was JCVI recommendation?

Before Covid, radicalisation was one of the biggest problems facing this Country. The NHS, as the biggest employer in the U.K, is not immune to this.

The story of the 100k tests was that it was the wrong target. Total misdirection. We needed a way of testing NHS, care workers, and testing the locals in known outbreaks. Then we could avoid tiers and so forth by applying very local measures quickly to prevent have the virus. This is what Germany and others had shown working. It was a miracle for their first wave.

THEN we needed to build test capacity for the nation ready for the next wave. That's one reason why those 100k tests made no impact, they were the wrong thing. Also, it mislead people into thinking 100k people were getting tested. The reality was probably about 30k-50k. No one really knew back then because all the tests went to a closed door operation the government set up that gave a select few people figures they could use. This did improve as we went on but in those days, we needed to be able to use the details of where the tests were and so forth to get out of lockdown safely.

On this note, we had to get a contact tracing app going for the future. He insisted on us building heath robinson trace app that sent the data to his mates, rather than pick up the ready made open source app. That was months late, didn't work, was rewritten. And the multibilion tracing operation run by Dido was a failure from day one and only got worse at finding people.

The councils had asked for the data to do that job themselves, but were all but refused any data at all, so they could not enact local measures. That went on from the start all the way THROUGH TIERING, when because there were no local measures, Central Govt had to impose the tier restrictions centrally and against the evidence provided by the numbers.

All from that decision to give us a massive attention grabbing target to get them out of having to answer any questions based on what they'd done that far, including care homes, and everything else.

So. Boris has a target... It's HUGE! And people change their answer from 'DUMP HIM' to, he deserves a chance to fill it.

Jesus Christ people. Look into the eyes, right into the eyes, not around the eyes, not at the hands.

Look at the nightingales! Up in a month! Look at the 100k tests! That really helped end that wave, didn't it?

Lies, damned lies, statistics - the only thing more misleading than ANY of them is a big target.

Learn from your mistakes, British people. The scientific opinion is very open on the efficacy of one dose. But that's ok. Let's just take the chance, because.... everyone loves a massive number to make them feel better?
