Colin Bell RIP - Ian Cheeseman interview with Jon Bell (P142)

Not ashamed to say I shed a tear at the news of Colin's death. I spent my childhood either trying desperately to emulate him when playing or cheering him from the stands. The world's a poorer place without him in it, one of life's gentlemen. RIP King Colin. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

My son just came into the room and broke the news.
Very sad.
As others of my vintage have said, he was very much why I developed a love for City in the early 70’s.
Still my favourite ever player, despite the great players we are seeing in the modern era (Silva etc)
A quiet giant of the game. Had it all. He’s the one player of that era that I think would fit into our team of this era.

Never had the pleasure to see him play, in fact the closest I ever got to him was living around the corner from his Bell Waldron restaurant in Whitefield.

This terrible news has has brought back some fond memories of my late granddad, who would just eulogise about The King. He would talk about him, probably in the same way us “younger” fans would talk about the likes of David Silva and Aguero today. He was held in such high regard, that those of us who weren’t around in the late 60s to see him play, still felt like we knew him because of parents/grandparents. It takes a special kind of person/footballer to have that impact on a football club.

RIP Colin and thank you for the memories.
It was the same with so many people. I can recall countless Saturday nights in town on the piss and talking about Colin with City fans and I can recall plenty of handy lads with tears in their eyes talking about their memories of the King

I'm genuinely saddened by the news, was definitely my all time favourite player, saw his first game at Maine Rd. after they'd bought him from Bury. One of the greatest players to have graced the game, even met him once when he had the restaurant with Colin Waldron in Whitefield,an absolutely wonderful and genuine human being.
RIP Colin

Condolences of course to his family who have lost much more than a footballer. In truth though to many of us he was simply the best footballer who ever breathed or ever will breathe. He was worshipped. In 1968 we were neck and neck with United for the title and we went to Old Trafford for a crucial night game. No live TV then and I was only a nipper. The next day headline was 'For whom the Bell tolls'. A rather apt title for today as well sadly. I will never forget you Colin, thanks so much for being part of my life.

PS We did win the match and went on to win the League in our traditional dramatic fashion.

He’s the greatest inside forward that the world has ever seen
Sad News, will have possibly seen him play at Maine Road but was too young to remember .

I heard a couple of different versions of the above song?

“Greatest Centre Forward that...”
“Greatest Aceist Forward that...”
?
RIP Colin The KING.

Well played Colin. You had a life we could only dream of, and you were an ultimate gent to go with it.

As sad as today is, celebrate his life.

I hope we beat the rags tomorrow and are able to sing Colin the king at Wembley in April.
Well said Pal !
