It's being widely reported that the government are aiming for 500k a day plus next week. The vaccination roll out is a success story at last.

Edit: I've just read a bizarre article in the Guardian which reports that the Lower Saxony region of Germany (where cases are extremely high) has decided that due to privacy laws they can't look at people's medical records in order to write to over 80s to invite them for a jab. Instead they are using partial postal records and guessing based on peoples first names.

WTAF???

I think they’ve got more than they are letting on tbh

Seem really keen to keep it quiet, usually they’d be shouting from the rooftops

My friend who has her jab at the Etihad next week tells me she had a 'nice' letter signed 'Matt' from Hancock telling her all she needed to know. I think she thought he had written to everyone personally but she was impressed nonetheless.

Quite a contrast to that story from Germany.

If they cannot look at records for privacy reasons how do they check for dangerous allergies that might be a risk or other factors that patients might not realise are a problem - or even put them on the list and identify them in the first place?

Which is why Sturgeon's Twitter post about how quickly Scotland do the vulnerable groups was deleted almost immediately yesterday. They get a set proportion of UK supply so it was easy to extrapolate the figures.

The government seems to be very confident at the moment. Regardless of political views, previous balls ups etc the fact is that vaccinations are going extremely well.

If they fulfil their promise to get to all over 65 by end of February I will be delighted and they will win back a lot of kudos. You would think they would not risk such a tight timetable if they were not reasonably sure they can pull it off. And it is rather important to get there if these variants are coming thick and fast and tweaks to the vaccines become necessary as they are going to set the world back weeks or a few months however fast they can react.

Though rather a lot rests on how efficacious the Oxford vaccine proves in real life as we will be primarily vaccinating with that in coming weeks.

Scientific advisers to the government have set out measures to reduce the transmission of coronavirus within homes, which they say can help cut the number of infections by up to 15% in just three weeks.

As a 66 year old I'm with you on this:..

All sensible which sadly may mean only the sensible will follow them.

Especially the opening of windows if there is a blizzard going on as quite likely this month and next. Any self respecting virus would go lock themselves in for a bit and wait until the sun shines at least before trying to infect us.

I am not leaving so nobody needs to panic. Just don't get angry at Kaz and I am fine.

We may disagree but she has a right to express disapproval of my posting. Anyone does.

Let you into one tiny secret I was once not a (very minor) character in the plot of a Hollywood movie because the author took umbrage at something I had said. Or rather a reviewer had said which was not entirely the same thing.

So a disagreement on here is not going to upset me.

As I said I will do my best to stop using capitals and am fine with that.

I just do not want to trigger any rows.

And dining out on that story was way better than ten seconds in a movie!

Revenge is often sweeter if you do not go looking for it.

House of Lords and Hollywood movies...can you do a big identity reveal when this is all over :)

On a serious note, many have done so already but thank you for your efforts over the last few months, both now when we are at a critical point in this crisis but also over the summer when cases and therefore general interest was lower. Your updates are extremely useful and this thread as a whole has been very informative.

Cases still worryingly high in Israel but the R number looks to be decreasing, and those aged 45 and over can have their first vaccination next week.

Relying on Google translate of Hebrew for this, but it seems possible positive news on the vaccine front but really early days and may be other factors at play. Still too early to tell. I had hoped the picture would be clearer by this stage, but that's just be being impatient.

Seems like Ireland have thankfully turned a corner, short of 3500 cases today from over 8000 last Friday. They were struggling so it's good to see things improve.

Honestly you would be really disappointed if I did as I have said many times I am not remotely famous.

It was just the job I did. But have not done in years as I gave it up having other family commitments.

But thank you for assuming I was a celeb.

Closest I got was interviewing the Liverpool captain on Wembley Way which made my hubby very jealous but was also not at all what it seemed.

I said I would make it up to him and did.

A box when these were rare and expensive for a match v Stoke.

At Goodison Park.

He still went!
