I think you’re mostly right.
But I do believe they know the rules of the game, they’re just annoyed they were applied fairly to City for once.
 
Didn't appreciate all the fuss made on BT and BBC over our first goal, which got far more attention than how good we were.

The decision to allow our goal wasn't even controversial as it was very clearly correct and in no way in doubt.

I do think the offside rule generally is not fit for purpose but that is because too many goals are being disallowed that really don't deserve to be, because, although the player is technically offside if you get out a micrometer, they haven't gained an advantage from their position.

The offside rule was brought in to stop goal hanging and that first principle is, IMO, the important bit.

Rodri wasn't goal hanging, he was coming back from pressing the goalie. He made no attempt to play the ball until Mings had touched it. It wasn't one of those cases where the ball was played on to someone in an offside position who then goes and scores, which I'm sure has happened to us in the last few years without any effing media furore about the rules.

I'm betting Rodri knew the rules and played to them and Bernie certainly did.
 
Every goal and penalty is reviewed by the rags' and dippers' most influential player of the past two seasons: VAR. I don't think they'd allow it if there was the slightest chance to do otherwise.
 
I've never known so many mistakes by a commentary team.

1) savage getting his facts wrong at half time.
2)commentator kept saying gundogan has scored, when it was silva.
3)mc pointy, kept saying the header was going wide anyway, as if that had anything to do with it!.
4)commentator saying great clearance from Stones,when it was DIAS.
I bet there is more as well.

after the final whistle back to the studio and lets go back to ref walton. the referee was right to give the goal because of the rule that states clearly mings played the ball ??

fuck me walton you have all the tools in bt-sports mock up VAR studio and could not see mings play the ball in the game hahahaahah fuck me he (mings) trapped it on his chest and then fucked up the control ?

bitter walton hates manchester city and was made to eat his words after the game. the pain on his face was a joy to behold ? all them everton away games he took charge vs city and give everton every fucking thing was worth the wait to see him finaly get rumbled
 
a great game to watch, hectic and at one point, calamitous. There were ricochets and missed sitters, ball through the legs 1 yard out and more. It was great fun to watch, mainly as we won.

re offside - yep, it was onside. interesting arguments on both sides (if you read intelligent people, not Wio etc). I would say the only semi convincing thing i've heard is that Rodri is gaining an advantage as Mings' cannot play the ball how he likes even though Rodri was offside from a City header. But this is semantics for me and cant be covered by a law? the law is sound for me, and there are always instances in footy where some weird quirk gets found out, they're quite rare. (and Mings should header that clear the absolute plum)

I presume Waltons initial verdict was done in real time in which he just missed the fact that Mings played the ball (he'll be subject to camera angles, the same as us). More importantly (and something that the media all seem to skate over) is the fact that the ref, the assistant ref and the VAR officials (how many are there?) all decided that it was a good goal with no hesitation or needing 5 minutes to work out what happened. None of the City players seemed overly worried with nervous glances at the ref either, Villa players were maybe just complaining in hope.

It was mistake by Mings, pure & simple.

If we were in 12th and out the the title chase nobody would have given a shit. Red bias again.
Having watched the game again we battered them and really should have been a 6-2 result.

Now fingers crossed turf moor is muddy as fuck, cuts up well and the dippers slip again

Spot on. Was on facebook with rags last night who were not having it until i came up with this alternative scenario that they finally understood and silenced them.

I asked them if Mings (unaware Rodri was behind him) turned and passed back to the keeper, Rodri intercepts it and scores, is it a goal or is he offside? They replied it would be a goal because the ball was played by a Villa player not a Blue.
So I asked them to apply that same logic to the real scenario and asked what difference does it make?
It makes none.....
