Villa (H) Post Match Thread

It is going to be interesting to see if this suddenly becomes a new way of strikers gaining that little bit of an advantage every match now. Stand 10 yards behind the defensive line, wait for the defender to touch the ball and then suddenly spring into action from behind them and try to nick it. In retrospect it seems such an obvious thing to do but we inadvertently stumbled across it!

I've never known so many mistakes by a commentary team.

1) savage getting his facts wrong at half time.
2)commentator kept saying gundogan has scored, when it was silva.
3)mc pointy, kept saying the header was going wide anyway, as if that had anything to do with it!.
4)commentator saying great clearance from Stones, when it was DIAS.
I bet there is more as well.
The worst was Wio - ' I don't care about the rules - the goal should not stand'

And he gets paid, he can hardly string a sentance together

Having watched it a few times, it's clearly the right decision (I'd say if I thought it wasn't). The ball played in doesn't get anywhere near Rodri. Not even close. Therefore he can not be said to be interfering with play. Mings takes not one, but two touches on it (chest, then foot). He's started another phase of play. Rodri, who is by this time onside, is well within his rights to tackle him. As anybody onside would be at that point.
It's a separate issue, but Mings clearly knew that Rodri was there. He is turned towards him when he's offside and decides that he represents no threat, which he doesn't at that point. He then appears to give a little glance over his shoulder, just to check, when he's turned away from him. Mings's mistake. He won't make it again. Very sharp from Rodri.

When I took my coaching badge in the late 1970's it was drilled into me ....
"They are Laws of the game not rules"
Just saying

I honestly didn’t think we would be in this position going off the first few games of the season so huge credit to the manager and players. If we can get Sergio up and running with a serious run of games under his belt we should hopefully go on and win it again

Walton claimed to have only realised that Mings played the ball after the end of the game when in actual fact he didn't understand the offside law. Laughable that these guys get paid to talk about football!
The worrying thing is this dick head ref’d about 10 City vs Everton games in a row, and he’d blatantly fuck us over.

Sadly, I just put this down to corruption.

Now I know the worrying truth. It’s a combination of corruption, and some of the referees in this country not even knowing the laws of the game!

BT Sport are such an amateur outfit. Definitely appealing to the lowest common denominator of arm chair fans. Literally employing low IQ individuals.

Someone said in here that the Camel mouthpiece said our goal wasn’t in the spirit of the game, they rightfully highlighted that neither was jumping out of a window to escape a drugs test. Wish someone in that studio had the brain and bollocks to say that to him, but we all know they’d be sacked for it.

Me neither didn’t impact the game at all. Well except for fouling and throwing himself on the floor. Just don’t rate him, above average player that’s about it. Big fish in a small pond.
Same here. Its sort of like Fernandes at Utd, hyped up quite a bit but when it comes to the big games with a well drilled opposition he's not that good.

It would be tough to replicate last night. First of all the attacker has to be offside and far enough away from the defender for him to not realise he is there as I am pretty convinced Mings either didn't know or forgot he was there. Then the ball has to go straight to the defender who has to play it and then the offside player has to now be near enough to tackle him without a team mate shouting man on. Then the defender would have to lose the ball etc etc. Given that scenario it makes our goal last night even sweeter. Oh how the piss will be boiling for some time to come

This morning's reaction to the game has really reminded me how much I dislike Villa fans, ex players and Dean Smith.

Which is a shame because I quite like the team they have there and the way they play.

This happens all the time. We do it 50 times a match.

Jesus or Sterling or Foden press the keeper, who plays it to a defender. They then press the defender from an "offside" (ie not offside at all) position.

Or a through ball is intercepted, and the forward who was going to receive the pass comes back from an "offside" position to press.

It never gets remarked on because the defenders are never so stupid as to just dawdle until they get mugged while they stare at the opposition player.

If we were in 12th and out the the title chase nobody would have given a shit. Red bias again.
Having watched the game again we battered them and really should have been a 6-2 result.

Now fingers crossed turf moor is muddy as fuck, cuts up well and the dippers slip again
Turf Moor could have 2 ft of water on it won't make any difference. Scouse at home.

is this what happens at free kicks one stands off side to pull defence back the rest move on kick of ball the off side player standing still then becomes on side as defence retreats, the rags do this all the time

Yep, apart from that gaffe (I kept refreshing my FF team live to see the Gundog points) I thought he was great. He was enthusiastic about the in-game events, rattled off stats on us winning four titles out of nine, and highlighting positive stats on our goalscorers and assist makers.

Better than having Darke quoting transfer fees for every player and finding obscure loser stats like Ederson has been on the losing side six times vs Porto when he played for his previous club etc.

Did he create anything or even put a worthwhile cross into our penalty area ? He's a show pony , looks good on the ball but invariably is ineffective.
Im not convinced by him....whiff of the Scott "Scotty" Parker about him......he's committed alright, but a lot bluff and buster
