Might as well blame Islam for Salman Abedi then. Or we can accept there are bad faith operators who preyed upon vulnerable, easily manipulated individuals.

I‘ll put you in the ‘not comfortable making the connection, so I’ll mention Islam instead’, camp.

The irony that antI-Muslim rhetoric such as Gove‘s “seventy million Turks about to invade unless you vote leave’ is kind of delicious though. Although, I’m sure Jo Cox’s killer got the message.

You stated it had been simmering for decades, so equally it may have just continued simmering for another decade. Neither of us can say with certainty either way.

What we can say for certainty is that there was a trigger. We can also say with certainty that at the point he was moved to actual violence there was a divisive referendum with an anti-immigrant, anti-foreigner message, and ‘Britain First‘, independence from ‘foreign rule’ themes, themes that spoke strongly to this individual.

I guess it’s down to each of us to decide whether we are comfortable making the connection or not.
I guess I am not comfortable with a direct link between a democratic referendum and a heinous murder. There is a link between some of the behaviours and rhetoric surrounding the referendum and the assassination but that is slightly different I think. Maybe I'm splitting hairs.

Does it mean that the MP was killed because of the campaign?

Cox wasn’t even a prominent name in the remain campaign, she was very much a local MP and the man who murdered her was local.

He killed her because of her support for the local Muslim population, of which he detested.

I really don’t like this point, I think it’s using the tragedy.
It's simply being willing to stoop to using that tragedy to score cheap points

For me the phrase - 'don't feed the troll' seems appropriate - because he will most likely not be persuaded or admit that what he is doing is really inappropriate

My problem when I see Brexiteers posting that the fishing industry woes had nothing to do with Brexit.

Firstly is that the fishing industry only discovered these Covid inspired problems after 1st Jan, no doubt a coincidence, and secondly he then blames the deal, which is -er- Brexit, and for not getting unfettered access to the European Market, which we can’t because of (wait for it), Brexit.

How the hell do you ‘unify’ with this level of dishonesty?

Well unity won’t happen if we take the views of one idiot and apply it to all.

Fair enough.

You have my sympathies :)

There was no difference to his posts and Habib in the video. We are not dealing with one idiot, we are dealing with a pandemic of witless stupidity.
I wasn’t necessarily referring to the views themselves but Habib strikes me as a bit of an idiot.

Also, I am sure @mcfc1632 doesn’t claim to speak for all of those that wanted Brexit.

Quite a fascinating read back. The problem starts and ends with people not realising what being in a trading bloc with a Single Market meant.

The FT are doing a run through of where we are right now and how we got here. Short answer seems to be ignorance, wilful and deliberate ignorance in some cases, and a bad negotiating strategy.

I will post some excerpts from the FT twitter thread, but to be honest it’s not anything we didn’t know or hasn’t been said a thousand times already.

One question, is Blueinsa not on here anymore? I enjoyed jousting with him.
Yeah I noticed blueinsa hasn't posted for a while.
We never agreed on much but hope he's ok.

I've already stated the connection. It came across that you were widening beyond that which isn't right.
