Chelsea thread 2020/21

Financially for Frank it was a great move ,career wise he should have stayed at Derby and learned his trade, the job was always going to be a big one especially with ruthless being the owner.
Is anyone in the least bit surprised with the outcome.. can’t blame Frank for taking the job. Blame lies someone on the board for appointing him in the first place

At least that ends any possibility of Tuchel ever landing here, terribly over rated manager, won one cup at Dortmund & flattered to deceive at PSG in a one team comp despite having generational talents at his disposal, had Pulisic at Dortmund & will know all about the Germans in the squad, not sure if a reunion with Silva is a positive
He likes Thiago Silva a lot. He was very unhappy the club didn't renew his captain. Can't fault him for thinking that as TS was the best PSG defender.

He also wanted Rudiger. He shoukd be really happy now.

I can see him do a good job there.

Managers who lasted less than a season:

  • Avram Grant
  • Luis Felipe Scolari
  • Andre Villas Boas
  • Roberto Di Matteo
Managers who lasted a single season:

  • Claudio Ranieri (previously appointed by Ken Bates, so not an Abramovich appointment)
  • Maurizio Sarri (wasn't sacked, but departed the club to join Juventus)
Managers who lasted 1.5 seasons:

  • Frank Lampard
Managers who lasted 2 seasons:

  • Carlo Ancelotti
  • Antonio Conte
Managers who lasted 2.5 seasons:

  • Jose Mourinho (2nd stint)
Managers who lasted 3+ seasons:

  • Jose Mourinho (1st stint)

Pulled these off Shed End. Since Mourinho's first stint, there's not a single manager lasting more than 3 seasons under Abramovich. Not that much of a surprise, but still shocking to see.

And the two who got them to the CL final were Grant and Di Matteo.

It was far too early for Lampard to make that jump.

Fair enough if he’d done an amazing job at Derby. But he did just a decent enough job.

He can come and be our #2

Was always too big a job for a rookie , giving these jobs to ex players is emotional and not practical

For all those saying he’s had to work with a limited budget - under Lampard, Chelsea have bought:

Ziyech - £36m
Werner - £48m
Chilwell - £45m
Havertz - £72m
Mendy - £21.6m
Silva - free, but he’ll be on huge wages and will have cost a hefty signing on fee, I’d imagine

Plus he spent £40.5m on Kovacic during his first season, even though they had a ban.

That’s £263.1m - which is a lot of money.

In the same timeframe, we’ve spent £223.9 across Rodri, Cancelo, Angelino, Steffen, Dias, Ake and Torres.

But of course we’re ‘under-achieving’ ‘moneybags City’, and Frank has been hard done by given he’s not been able to spend any money to strengthen his squad.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story!
