It was also a financial decision. Till now, Thiago Silva was benefiting from a special fiscal status. This year, to pay his net salary we would have to increase his gross salary by a big margin. It was too big apparently.I can understand the doubt that Leonardo had about Silva because when players are in their 30's it can be fine for a while and then go downhill in a flash, so it becomes a case of trying to predict when the decline starts before it starts to cost you important games, but Silva absolutely has still got it - I'd argue with VVD injured, he has come in and been the best defender in the league and if he maintains current form he'll make the team of the season quite easily, which is a hell of lot better than I expected when we signed him. Incredible player.

Surprised to read the stories about him being under mointing pressure. Thought he would be afforded a much lengthier honeymoon period given his status at the club, and this season being the way it is isn't really a fair yardstick to judge managers with

I hope Roman does not pull the plug on Frank. You cannot expect him to be able to mould a team of new players while winning each week in a covid season.Crap. No place to hide for Lampard now. He's got to arrest the slide.
We have some tough games coming up and he has to put together a couple of back to back wins.
It was always going to be an up and down season with so many new faces. He is owed time and at the very least this season.

From an outsider looking in, last season he undoubtedly over achieved with a forced slant towards youth due to the transfer ban.
This season instead of tweaking that side with maybe a defender, midfielder and forward they've just bought too many players who can't play together (yet perhaps) which has also pushed a few of the kids out too.
