Chelsea thread 2020/21

Ruthless imo.

Frank is clearly a very intelligent man with a very deep knowledge of the game.

I think he'd have improved them a lot given time.

I imagine he's absolutely devastated Chelsea being his club and him being a genuine legend there.

All the discussion in the press is of whether Frank deserved more time to build the team and club he wanted. This ignores the fact that this is not the language Abramovich speaks. He is not like Sheikh Mansour whose aim is to build a successful club which offers opportunities and develops talent: Abramovich simply wants to win and managers will only keep their job until they stop winning. Abramovich will back them with cash while they offer the real chance of success but he'll ditch them ruthlessly when that success appears unlikely. Scolari, a world cup winner, lasted nowhere near as long as Frank. Mourinho lasted only as long as the trophies kept rolling in. Frank's vision of a club actually building a successful future based on the club's youth system plus talented (and expensive) imports always looked too long term for Abramovich and so it proved.

And so Tuchel looks the successor. There are already questions as to whether he is too prickly for the owner. Abramovich will tolerate that, provided he succeeds. I suspect if Tuchel gets top 4 he'll get a second season, especially if he can reach a cup final. If he doesn't his stay in west London may be very short lived. And if Chelsea cannot give him the finance they gave Frank, Tuchel will have to win with someone else's squad, a squad with very little confidence or unity.

Tuchel is bobbins.

Again it shows what a great owner we have. Abra made Chelsea huge because there was no competition moneywise other than the other 3 clubs who were sponsored by CL money year in year out. They made sure there was room for 4 and problem solved.

After our entrance it was the one off by Mourinho when we dumped Pellers for Pep, but the merry go round for managers continued.
Abraham made them a force. But he will keep them away from being a force again if he sacks managers and interfere in affairs that only concerns true knowledge of the game of football.

Sacked ancelloti the year after a cup double

Most Chelsea fans love the owner for what he has done for them so they will accept these changes as part of there profile

Didn't know Tammy Abraham wielded so much authority in Chelsea. Explains alot. ;)

Well if the players see that they have to challenge for the title this season that puts them under more pressure.

What will the Russian do if Chelsea finish 6th or worse sack another manager?

Could be gone by summer.

Abramovich has completely unrealistic expectations.
From a manager's point of view, it is a no brainer. Know exactly what is expected of you in a set time frame. Sign a lucrative contract for longer than that set period, which will be paid up if you get binned off. Achieve the results, great. Dont achieve the results, still great.

It's quite intriguing. At the moment Tuchel hasn't agreed to join and I can quite see why. Avramovich has sacked managers in mid-season on five occasions, including Frank. On two of those occasions he brought in Hiddink and in the others he brought in Benitez and di Matteo. Hiddink and Benitez went at the end of the season in which they were brought in. Only di Matteo survived into the season following his appointment. Despite finishing sixth in the PL he won the CL to earn a permanent contract, but even so he lasted only until the March of 2013. The longest lasting managers at Abramovich's Chelsea have lasted more than two years but never more than three!

So it will be interesting to see if Tuchel goes whether he goes on a contract initially only to the end of the season - in which case he may well face the sack if he doesn't finish in the top four - or whether he gets a "permanent" contract. Personally I'm not sure it makes much difference. Abramovich's "hire then fire" style appears to be a style much admired in his homeland where success reflects on the owner rather than his underlings so a "permanent" contract may be little more than reassurance to Tuchel's bank balance rather than a guarantee of survival beyond the end of the season.

Too soon to sack Lampard IMO - young squad with new players at many positions. Lampard got rid of their worthless Kepa and their squad is full of talent, albeit not performing atm.

Probably Chelsea still pick up 4th in the P/L this year based on squad strength/depth - continuity of management would put them in better position for next season.

But whatever - Chelsea's woes can only help us Citizens.

+1
With a fire-happy owner, and a squad not quite meshing... it's a risky career move taking the Chelsea manager post.
