It's what they are like, and what leavers have been saying for years about the unaccountable dictatorial beurocracy that is the EU. Once again for all their talk of peace and the GFA it is Brussels that are prepared to inflame tensions over the Irish border. They are just attempting to bully and coerce, pure and simple.
Modern day Nero's, fiddling about while Europe is burning. Wankers.

Yes they realised how stupid they looked, and I think EU governments are putting pressure on the EU Commission for being slow in the first place. They're also worried that the decision to spite the UK over vaccines, would backfire with relationships worldwide, it was a foolish thing to do, and they realised just in time.
I still think we (global) need to think in terms of ramping up mass production in every continent. We need to do this to either vaccinate the whole world to snuff covid out, or (God forbid) have the capacity ready for vaccine mk2 if the virus mutates /adapts. The ability to quickly replicate /mass manufacturer vaccines across the globe is a capacity humanity needs to build anyway.

I'm sorry but years of being lied to have left me jaded. Can anyone provide a link to a reasonable set of facts and viewpoints re EU and UK vaccine supply? My only uninformed view is that some contracts were signed and that perhaps there was no legal stipulation for timeline of delivery, but it seems some bitter shit is being lobbed about

Porkies are flying.
They didn’t really shed much light on what they claimed they had in their contract.
As part of my job I routinely agree contracts for supply of Pharma ingredients with big Pharma and ‘best endeavours’ is a fairly common term which is non binding and basically means...we’ll do our best to meet your requirements.

what the EU haven’t published/stated is that all such contracts have a force majeure clause. Which, if they chose to, AZ could easily activate if the production problems they have reported can be substantiated. In this circumstance, products would become on allocation only basis.

My take on the situation is that the EU have been too slow to sign agreements and have been caught napping. They are in the shit in a very bad way because the roll out is way behind and from what I’ve seen on the tv somewhat shambolic.

Can anyone see the Cheltenham Horse Racing Festival allowing crowds in this year?

Think it was more to do with looking dickheads triggering article 16, which would then force the UK to reciprocate.....then trade war!

Hopefully someone with a cool head takes over on their side, their behaviour has been appalling and with lives at stake too...fucking ghoulish. That Belgian dude was a bit of a dick talking a trade war up this morning, followed by Zelda, the Greek lady.....embarrassing double act.

More to the point, with all these closed borders, will there be much chance of the CL restarting ? It's fine to play internally, but I can see the CL being suspended again, or going to a neutral country over a couple of weeks, I can't see governments allowing even "elite" sport to travel between nations, they're already discussing a neutral venue for one of the europa league games.

Yes but it (not the article 16 alone) had implications outside of the relationship with the UK, a bloody stupid move, that thankfully someone seems to have got a grip of.

If I were UEFA I'd give the dates back to the national associations, cancel any international dates on the proviso that domestix business is then wrapped up by mid May at the latest and then do the host country business for the UCL/UEL and Euros. 1 country, each team/nation in a bubble for their whole stay.

Perfectly sensible, but too many greedy snouts in the money trough for anything that sensible to happen.

I suspect that might happen, but its only 2 weeks on Tuesday when it all kicks off again.

If Arsenal play in Portugal, their players will have to quarantine for 10 days on return to the UK, France have closed their border with none EU (so UK).

It needs to be debated.
Money. End of debate. I'd be gutted if this season was scrubbed just as city look like getting into the groove but let's face it, football should not have been happening since November really.

Domestically it's fine, and will carry on, if we went to 80,000 cases a day and carried on we'll carry on at 25-30k. Internationally with borders closed I'm not sure even money can keep it going, we'll see, but we already know there is an alternative, they did it last year, but it's not ideal.

Of which there are many!

I was reading today about the returnees from their jollies in Dubai. One when questioned why she had gone “I just needed some me time”

I think it's always been like this. Even in the second world war there were rule breakers and black marketer's selling food at vast profit while people were going hungry. I would guess it's worse now there appears to be a hell of a lot of vacuous people these days. The "I'll do what I want!" brigade. Nobody stops my little Johnny having his birthday party/me meeting my friends/going on holiday/having my hair/nails done!

Dubai was a loophole they exploited. It's never been a country high on my list to visit, is it worth doing for those who've been? If all the bars and shopping malls are open as normal there, everyone mingling then our governments should have banged them all straight into quarantine on their return, as much as they squealed. They'd have plenty of me time then.

Tuchel just waltzed into the country and straight to Chelsea. They make exceptions if you grease the right palms.

It is more likely that the EU were shamed by criticism by the Irish republic whose views carry more weight as a member state.

The EU have shit themselves in the foot. Just like our Government did when they tried to legislate to beak international agreements, a couple of months ago.

That would be the sensible thing to do, games domestically can be brought forward easily, it affects no one but the teams, s instead of playing Gladbach we get our Everton game played and then bring another forward. It would ensure that the season didn’t go past May. FA cup games could be played midweek as well.
