What Autumn nonsense ? It's all conjecture at the moment. If we do end up with disproportionately stricter measure, then yes I'll be totally pissed off but until I hear anything official I won't be concerning myself in anticipation.

That's fair enough. It's very dispiriting seeing it in the papers though. I know so many who are at rock bottom, who maybe aren't as capable of brushing these headlines off as you that will sink further with this. I'm genuinely concerned about my brother for one as he's been all over the place. Speaking to my dad on the phone last night and a mate of his at work committed suicide on Wednesday too. Healthy 37 year old bloke with three young kids. He's not seen him in person for ages due to his job, but he wasn't in a good place due to everything based on his social posts etc. I feel for people as low as he was that are reading these headlines today.

To be fair, I don't recall any promises, as such. The media are whipping everyone up too much, all nations need to walk through this pandemic, not run, and it really is an ever-changing situation as the data comes through. Personally I do expect more freedoms to come (controlled environments like schools, restaurants etc), but we won't be going back to normal for some time I expect, the social distancing will be for a while yet.

Sadly, the risk is not just for yourself but to those around you, so no, it's not just your choice. At some point though, once we have quick vaccination programmes for everyone who wants one - hopefully later this year - then there'll come a point when we can say if you don't want one then it's your choice, but we're a bit away from that yet.

Keep the spirit, mate, we'll get there.

No I'm not having it anymore. I'm vaccinated, I wear a mask and I'm not fucking sitting indoors slowly dying mentally and spiritually much longer. I'm putting nobody at risk. If they open a pub or a football stadium and everyone in those places chooses to go it puts nobody else at risk, they can stay at home as they are doing now. I mingle with people all the time buying essentials, I did when the pandemic was at it's peak, with no mask as they weren't deemed essential back then. So by that reasoning I'm putting others at risk buying food. Enough is enough now, anyone who believes if we all comply it will be over by the autumn or more freedom will be afforded to us still believes in father Christmas.

That's really sad to hear. I'm sure there are lots of other cases like this all over the world at the moment.

All we can repeat to people who are getting dispirited is don't fall for the media hype or government waffle - just keep watching those daily case numbers and daily number of people in hospital figures. Those are the two figures that will determine when each level of restriction is lifted in the UK. The lower they go, the closer we are to a bit of relief.

Whilst the death figure is always sad to look at, it's just a natural consequence of the other two figures.

Yeh I think we should probably wait for actual information on what the plan is, I imagine there'll be social distancing in some form, whether that's in public places etc. I don't think it will be for close family interactions etc, like you say people won't follow that if they tried.

The government have overpromised and lied throughout the pandemic.

Spot on mate people are mentally exhausted. I have heard of three people who have taken their own lives as they saw no hope or end to this. The people on here lecturing others can fuck off, everyone deals with things differently. Good decent people who have stuck with it, followed all the rules, got the vaccination, not seen friends or loved one's in months, even they are now at tipping point.

Personally I think we will see both of those things opened in controlled manners BUT don't quote me on that :)

The thing is, when you open something it creates a chain of people to enable it to open - stewards at the game, people to work the bar, people to supply the goods, people to pack the goods and so on and so on. This creates pressure on businesses to get people back to work and not all those will be vaccinated yet and that's where the risk currently is. I wish it wasn't so, but it is.

Did you see that news report about that woman who killed her disabled son? She was obviously mentally broken and the lockdown was actually cited as a contributory factor. I said in the first lockdown that it must be horrendous for full time carers on their own. The usual avenues for ongoing support and allowing her some respite had been with withdrawn, and I bet there are hundreds of thousands in the same position.

We're all in the same boat mate. What we don't need at the minute, is people rocking the boat and sinking it, after we have been at water for a year.

You have had a bit of a rant this morning, but you don't know what the proposals actually are. From having a look, it seems the media are scare mongering again. No verified source and no actual details. Stop winding yourself up.

Who's lecturing anyone? It's all headlines and no facts, at this point. Although it was pointed out some time ago that there will probably be some measures in place until everyone has been vaccinated. Which I've got no problems with so long as they're not disproportionate.

It means no parties, no clubs, no pubs as we know them, no football matches as we know them, no going to see your parents and sitting without masks and distancing.

It's not normal life like we can see in Australia, New Zealand and China. It's control.
I hope you're wrong mate, no offence but I think its a bit of an overreaction. "Social distancing" is quite a vague term that could mean a whole host of stringent measures, or it could (hopefully) just mean wearing masks and keeping the windows open in work.

Do government officials drip feed these sort of things to the media to soften the blow when they are finally announced? I've been off since mid November shielding my wife and these restrictions are getting to me but I've not broken the rules even though the mixed messages are really frustrating. The best thing to do is avoid the news as much as possible

I get that but thousands of shop workers have been doing that throughout the pandemic seven days a week. Only people who want to work in those venues should do so. Tram and train drivers have also worked throughout and sit inside their own bubble when driving so the risk is minimal. Bus drivers are behind screens and I've not seen one wearing a mask yet, but all the passengers do. Again nobody is forcing anyone to go out or travel, those that don't want to stay at home shielding.

Tbf the headlines said 'stay apart until autumn' so you cant really blame people for interpreting it as exactly that

There's a balance here between having people working in essential services and non-essential. In the grand scheme of things, going to a football match or having a beer sat in a pub aren't really essential for the majority. I appreciate everyone is handling this differently and I know you live alone from your previous posts, so understand that for mental health reasons others need these escapes, which is why I think they will open soon(er), but how do they ensure everyone has been vaccinated who attends - sadly not everyone is as respectful to others.

Surely it gets to a point when everyone has been offerd a vaccine, those that don't take it have to be allowed to take the risk of attending and hoping, maybe correctly, the immunity around them will protect them. As I said earlier, we never used to worry if those sat next to us at a game were putting themselves at risk from hospital or worse by catching flu having turned down a vaccination.
