I got my call 3 weeks ago. A couple of days later found that a neighbour a couple of years younger than the wife was also going to get their jab. Nagged the misses to ring and ask. Result was an invitation to come along and be vaccinated. Always call if it doesn't seem right.

What can be said, is that on that judgement, everything we know about the virus tells us Christmas gatherings would be expected to increase transmission.
 
My dad got his text on Tuesday but hasn't had the follow up call yet. Did anyone else have to wait a few days?

Cheers. I agree with you. What I was objecting to was the suggestion that the January spike was caused solely by Christmas Day get-togethers.

Those gatherings were probably a factor, but not the only one, and possibly not even a very significant one, but we can't be sure.

My wife had a text,it just said a certain place,a certain time,jab done....said if they couldn't make that time slot,to then book appointment.
Same with a lad in work........no booking,nothing.

More and more of the virus in circulation will be the Kent variant. If there's this rotation going on then you would expect a decrease in the rate of decline as the virus as a whole becomes more contagious. Mitigating against that will be the effect of vaccines on transmission, and possibly other factors such as activity levels.

The one risk are the new variants. We have a clear path out providing we maintain control of their growth. I think it's fine now as R is below 1, but we need to develop a strategy to contain new variants when lockdown is lifted. Mas testing will probably be involved but they have to develop an alternative to throat swabs. I am at an institution where this is voluntary but no one does it because it is unpleasant. When you have a situation where most are vaccinated it will be almost impossible to get people to gest tested too. This needs looking at.

Agreed that was concerning as these seem to be popping up everywhere that a spate of new cases do. It is feeling a bit like the virus is getting desperate in face of our counter measures and seeking anything that might work.

I just wish we could just have a peace conference and a cup of tea and suggest the destination on neutral ground - via a rocket going to a nice world called Mars.

Nobody will try to stop it spreading there. It can infect rusty rocks in perpetuity.

Yes some on here are indeed. Or politically opposed I guess.

I really do not like the way people personalise these attacks on those who report Nicola Sturgeon's data.

As in me mostly so I take this attack personally.

I have repeatedly said I do so not because of politics or nationalism etc. As I have zero involvement in Scottish nationalism and my political views are actually very fluid. I have voted for three different parties in the last three elections as I base my decision on policies not prejudice.

Yes - I suspect it is relevant the fact that she is a woman in a job and most of you are blokes so might not see why that would tip the scales a bit for me in giving leeway. I have been in meetings like Jackie Weaver too often to know how that tips the balance towards the men there when they never even notice it happening.

But if so any tilting of my opinion in here is subconscious not a real reason for me to be biased.

As I have repeatedly said in here the reason I report her is that she gives data in her daily presentations and that should hardly surprise anyone as to why I tune in.

As for the data. I report what she says good or bad and don't judge as this is not a politics thread.

But I also do not hide anomalies and recall posting (though nobody in here picked up on it) when she described numbers that added up to over 100% of people vaccinated in certain groups that she referenced to it being because the population data was out of date.

Seems odd that any government plans the most important vaccination programme in British history off the back of data they know to be incomplete.

So I will continue to report the data she posts and if some in here want to make silly remarks about my doing so and inferring it has any political basis that's up to them. But it will say more about their biases. Not mine.
