City can make an offer to Messi on 1st July when hes out of contract with Barcelona. That's what will happen if we want to sign him. Fingers crossed.

Messi should finish his career with Barcelona.

I am very proudly defending my club and owners that we only do signings of young promising players that are suited to the club for a combined quality of play and personality. It’s the big picture that has secured unsustained succes ever since 2011.

Messi is old. That’s a fact. He has never played in another league. Never with another club. Never lived in a not Spanish based country
Messi will demand a salary that is far beyond what our top earners get and disrupting a salary system within the club that has been carefully build.

Messi was the worlds best player. Not anymore. It’ll be a commercial transfer and the question is what it will bring and if it’s worth the gamble for destroying what we have been building.

Mbappe or Haaland, to name two, are by far players that suit every aspect within our club.

I'm sure Messi's guy last summer revealed Pep had a two hour chat with the player to discuss how he would fit in?

There is a wider public thirst to establish Messi's future and, much like it was with Pep coming to us, I think the player and City will have to keep fencing on this until the cat is let out of the bag?

Possibly City want to aid Laporte in his election campaign and can still hold off for now or until PSG deliver the final death blow?

The truth of the matter is that he’s waiting until the summer, as he can’t sign a Pre contract with the team he’s joining. I have it on no authority whatsoever that he’s off to Real Madrid ;)
 
The Glazers, Gill and United will be all over Messi now they know this.

They just need Chevrolet to give them another over inflated and loss making shirt sponsorship deal, signed off by some no-mark, who didn't get the boards approval first.

I dont remmeber seeing/reading this but Im sure others did (taken from the SSN article):

In December, interim president Carlos Tusquets also claimed the club should have sold Messi last summer when he wanted to leave.

Tusquets said: "Both in terms of what you save on the wage bill as well as the money you make, it would've been desirable."

It sounds like they are just setting up for him to leave to appease fans etc....

plus with the "leaked" contract details accusing him of financially destroying the club" - sounds like a whole narrtive is being played out to lessen the impact on fans of him leaving.

Of all the stupid arguments, genuinely, the age one is the one that annoys me the most.

Lewandowski is the highest scoring player in the world, he's about to turn 33.

Ronaldo has scored 88 goals in 115 games since joining Juventus at 34.

Messi at 32 scored 30 goals and got 25 assists last season. He's already got 20 this season.

Benzema is 33 is scoring more in his 30's than he ever did before.

Jamie Vardy won the golden boot at 33 last season.

Suarez and Messi are competing for the La Liga golden boot at 33 and 34.



Why do people think world class players become octogenarians as soon as they cross 30? Just look at what he's actually done in the last 18 months. It's not going to just disappear the moment he signs for City.

He'll be here for 2 years, maybe 3. Like Ronaldo at Juventus he will still score 30+ a season.

Pep was on the phone with Messi for hours last summer telling him how his life would be with us. And since then, he stopped saying he should finish his career at Barcelona.

btw, just to comment on something that was mentioned a few posts before. There is a rumor going around twitter that Pep’s relatives in Barcelona signed the petition for Font, not for Laporta
