This is actually very smart from City, doing this putting out this info to sky sports gives them a good reputation with barca unlike PSG who are flaunting Messi to them in the press. Its being respectful to Messi as well so he dosent seem like a villain to the barca fans.

If you think for one second with Messi available our club won't go for him your ignorant, our owner has tried to pull this deal off since he took over us he sees Messi probably as the Crown Jewel.
We know exactly what is going to happen.

Just putting it out there re Messi

New York City to sign him on a 4 to 5 year deal aka Lampard and then loan him back to us for one or two seasons.

We pay loan fee to them plus part of his wages which will stop any unrest in the camp with Kev and Sterling on the wages front

After one or two years he returns to NYC and finishes his career there which will take the attention away from David Beckhams florida team

That might make it even better. Just imagine... I don't think there is actually enough piss to boil.

If he is coming to City he is coming legit and not on some CFG loan deal. Him coming brings legitimacy which we lose immediately if there is a hint of shenanigans. Plus he's coming for no fee so there is no need to make it look accounting good. You give him a basic salary around our top earners and a fat signing fee. Anyone that complains has to match his goals and assist stats or bring in the same kind of commercial revenue

I completely get why some Blues don't want to take the risk but this signing isn't just about what he will bring to the field of play.

Off it, it finally gives City a seat at the top table and puts us on the final journey towards becoming the biggest club in the world.

All the trophies we have won, the needle has only been shifted so far, but Messi brings a kudos and fanbase that will stay with us for generations to come.

Supplement that with even more trophies and the biggest ones at that, we become a global superpower.
Absolutely agree, spot on!

From few games I’ve seen Barca play this year If I had the choice of any Barcelona player it would be PedrI not Messi guven his age he looks the real deal and would slot into our team seamlessly.

Obviously the Messi deal is predicated on the commercial / strategic value he brings to the club/group and is not a footballing based decision. I suspect he’s also the one player our owner always wanted and the fact we’re 13% own by Chinese investors where Messi is god like probably comes into play to.

I do think a lot of people are reacting to this deal negatively simply because it’s not a footballing deal, but there’s no way Pep is having Messi forced on him and at 34 Messi though maybe not be the player he once is a very intelligence with incredible skils so will adapt

If this deal doesn’t happen I wont be that fussed as footballing wise replacing Aguero has to be the priority but at the same time if I do see Messi walk out onto the pitch in the community shield next year in a Man City shirt, I‘ll probably be fighting back the tears.

I say trust our manager and our owners (honestly can’t understand anyone who doesn’t).....it’s not my our money so if Pep wants him and our owners/management can justify the financial outlay whilst still being able to go all out for a top striker to replace Aguero then I’m absolute behind this deal!

This makes no sense whatsoever to me. He's too old and crazy money. And this whole idea of the Messi money being ringfenced is daft when FFP still exists.

We're managing fine in Messi's part of the pitch and he offers nothing future wise. The wages they're talking about are crazy. We should be chucking that money at the next best thing in a position we actually need. However fun it sounds, se don't need ageing legends for the sake of prestige. We should be looking forward, not back.

2011/12 - 51 games / 68 goals / 21 assists
2012/13 - 45 games / 56 goals/ 14 assists
2013/14 - 53 games / 45 goals / 15 assists
2014/15 - 59 games / 61 goals / 25 assists
2015/16 - 52 games / 40 goals / 21 assists
2016/17 - 57 games / 55 goals / 17 assists
2017/18 - 58 games / 49 goals / 21 assists
2018/19 - 60 games / 56 goals / 21 assists
2019/20 - 45 games / 33 goals / 26 assists
2020/21 - 29 games / 20 goals / 8 assists (halfway through season)

Firstly, his stats are a joke.

Secondly, he’s rarely injured

Thirdly, tell me where he’s “past it” because even the last 2 seasons he’s been incredible in a very poor Barca side.

plus miss bum bum.

Irony is usually only done verbally (or at least discernible verbally) or with body language/reading facial queues....try using smily faces if you are being ironic in the future......

;-)
Bill Shakespeare begs to disagree, but accepts a few smiley faces might add some depth to 'Macbeth'.

I suspect a lot of those goals are penalties. And for a side whose game revolves around Messi those assist figures are not great this season. You have to remember that La Liga is very polarised. Poor Barcelona and Real Madrid sides still dominate that league and plunder goals. What did you think of Real Madrid last season when we played them? A sub standard City beat them easily.

The problem with fans who dream about Messi plating for City is that they dream about the past and not the future. I watched the PSG game. It was the first game I have seen him play for a while and apart from a penalty he was completely ineffectual. I don't care if he's available on a free. It would be a bad move for club and player.

I think something is cooking underneath all of this. Latest news coming out of the rumour mill is City not in for Messi.
Haaland is Madrid bound/Mbappe is madrid bound. Sancho most prob will go to United.
I don't think we will be sitting on our arses while our competitions make all these signings. And obviously these are just baseless rumours.
My money would be at least one of Mbappe/Neymar/Felix/Haaland/Messi to City. And each of them are difficult in their own right. Let me throw Lukaku in the mix as well just on the rumours.
I don't any other player other than those will be an upgrade on our current team.

Reports this mornring saying messi will cost to much and city not interested looking at other top class alternatives.
No idea if we are looking at getting him or not but I'm pretty sure there is no alternative to Messi. If we were but have decided not to pursue it then I'd have thought we wouldn't be looking elsewhere anyway.

I’ll be honest mate, I stopped paying much attention after the first sentence.

I’ve honestly heard it all now. The greatest player of all time.... “yeh but a lot of his goals are pens”

For the record I’ve put his pens in brackets which poo poo on that first sentence. 68 pens out of 483 goals. 14%. Hardly earth shattering is it.

People will make up any old excuse to oppose this transfer. Madness.

edit - having just read your post fully, what did I think of Madrid when we played them? Please don’t buy in to this media narrative of “they aren’t the team they were”. Madrid are the reigning champions of Spain and are one of the top 4/5 teams in the world.
