Bluemoon Angling Thread

Love catching up on this thread, even if it's days apart. It's amazing. Got Idahoe commenting on the Nene at Wadenhoe which is 5 minutes away from me (FFS I thought he resided in 'America'). DD and Newman are absolute heroes with their 'Mr Crabtree' like posts and photos. Respect to you all. Wouldn't it be amazing if after all this mess is over, we get a huge hired residence on say the Severn for a few days and have a good damn crack! For those that are able to get out over the next few days /the weekend, enjoy. Not looking forward to tomorrow, got a 400 mile round trip in these weather conditions to attend my mums internment in Liverpool

Just catching up on this thread. Sorry to hear about your mum.

Fishing-wise, I've been up in Manchester working but I've brought my tackle up and intend to stop at the Severn for a "comfort break" on my drive back to the Midlands :-)

I’ve been trying to take advantage of the rising temperatures and get used to my GoPro with decidedly mixed results. I’m trying to catch a big perch on film and have been out for 3-4 short sessions. On Friday I tried a new stretch of canal and as I fished with the Ned rig, saw a shoal of roach explode. I changed over to a roach looking jig and bang, was into a pike with the camera on. After i netted it, a fat Jack of about 5lb, I turned the camera off. I tried to unhook it in the net only for it to do a death roll and cut my finger on its teeth. At the end of that session, when I excitedly opened the footage it started with me shouting “fuck!” And unhooking this pike whilst bleeding like a stuck pig. There was no footage of the fight at al as I’d clearly presses record OFF, not ON at the key moment.

yesterday I had a few hours with the pike lures with no success. Changed to a perch lure and caught a small one. Checked the footage to find an hour of me talking over a close up of my jumper. I’d mounted it back to front.

Hoping for better results this afternoon. It’s lovely and mild which is why I’m focusing on the canals- they’ll be warmed up quicker than the lakes.

So for the first time next season (starts 13th March), I will be a member of a 'members only' fishery, Coldingham Fly Fishers. For those interested I have posted some drone footage of it. The loch is a natural spring-fed 22-acre loch, about 300 yards from the sea and about 300 feet above sea level. It is a magical place.

As it is spring fed, it doesn't colour up like most fisheries and its natural state is gin clear.

I cannot wait to get out again. This lockdown is so bloody long.

Laughed at this. Typical. I bought one but also had "mixed" results. Last holiday I lent it to my girlfriend who is even less technologically gifted than me. She came back with some fantastic underwater footage of the turtles in the bay. I can never get over the picture quality even on the cheaper versions.

That just looks so fishy. Like the chair btw. Looks v comfy.
So what do you think will be pulling your line in there?

Did my usual fishing for bites hoping a big one would show up but it didn't. Still, had a bagful of small roach, dace and bleak.

A guy came up and we were talking and he said he hadn't seen a gudgeon out of the river for years. You want a gudgeon ? Who ya gonna call ? I produced one next bite !!

I know people don't like keepnets but I wanted to make sure I wasn't catching the same fish over and over !
