Your First Derby Game

The 1:1 at swamp with Ian Brightwells volley. I swear it was heading straight for me if the net hadnt got in the way (bet everyone else thought the same mind!)

Id missed the 5:1 as I was playing a match myself that afternoon and my parents wouldnt let me call off and let the side down!
Playing myself Saturdays and Sundays would actually prevent me going to a lot of games in my teens. Was mainly a midweek goer!
 
Maine Road massacre

Amazing day as a teenager coming up from Devon. Brilliant game, obviously but in the bar afterwards that was nearly as memorable - Seeing grown men virtually in tears, hugging each other was absolutely immense.

Still love that kit, period of time and that day. Still got the ticket and programme that I got signed by Little and Large!
 
1971 3-3 as a ten year old experiencing the noise and the crowds like that I was hooked 50 years ago and still remember the crowd noise.
 
The 3-3 draw in 1990, absolutely wounded at the time and took me until the last Maine Rd derby to see us beat them. Fortunately many times since!

I went back to school as a very proud 8 year old that we'd scored 2 against the twats. How times change. If only 8 year old me knew we'd be rampaging over everybody 25 years later. Hope you're feeling better by the way.

I think the last Maine Road derby was the first derby win for a lot of us. Absolutely amazing that day.

Second one was also at their place, when Goater nearly snatched an injury time winner. I was in with the rags on that day, and gave myself away big time!
 
1962 at Old Trafford (still the only time I’ve been there). Won 3-2 with a last minute Alex Harley breakaway goal.

I could deal with the loss, the hardest part was the Monday going into school after every defeat. Bloody torture. It was tough as hell being a kid City fan in the 90's.
 
I went to the derby in the 90's as a really young kid, where we lost a 2 nil lead, but I barely remember it.

The one I remember was in 00/01, Beckham scored a free kick in the first minute and we lost 1 nil.

Second derby memory was where Goater scored twice and we won 3-1. Still one of the best games I've been too, the atmosphere was insane. The echoes of 'feed the goat and he will score', were deafening.
 
I think I must have been at the 1969 4-0 win as that was the first year I started going with my mum and dad, but the first one I can remember was the famous 3-3 at Maine Rd in 1971.
 
My first derby match was at the fag end of the 1962-63 season.

It was my third match at Maine Road after a 0-3 defeat by Blackpool and a 1-0 win over the (then) mighty Spurs. George Hannah was brilliant the previous Saturday but picked up an injury and Joe Hayes was moved to take Hannah's role with Neil Young coming in on the wing.

City needed to win to have a realistic chance of avoiding relegation with United just above them in the table. All was going well with Alex Harley putting City ahead. Time was running out when Denis Law made a nine tariff dive to win a penalty for United that was put away by Albert Quixall.

That match effectively relegated City and they would not play United again for three seasons apart from the rather silly Duke of Edinburgh Cup friendly in 1964 for the Variety Club of Great Britain. I can't remember the result other than City getting gubbed.

My first away game at OT was the testimonial for Munich Air Disaster survivor Bill Foulkes @ 1970.
I don't remember much about the game, what I do remember is the mayhem and scrapping on the way back into town after the match.
Skirmishes and running battles all the way back down Chester Road, and there seemed to be loads of shop windows being smashed in. And police horses charging onto the pavement scattering people everywhere.
As a mere snip of a 14 year old youth, I was terrified and buzzing at the same time.
I was mighty glad to get back into town unscathed, and get the bus back home to safety in Middleton.
