United 2 City 3 at OT, September 1962.
I still remember walking down Stretford Road to the ground with The Old Man; Joe Hayes' goal for us (but not Peter Dobing's!); then as the clock was running down with United trying to get a winner at 2-2, they gave the ball away and suddenly Alex Harley was on a clear run at goal with what seemed like the whole United team and crowd chasing him before he planted it past David Gaskell!; and finally The Old Man pointing to Trautmann, shouting 'Look at Bert!' and I saw him outside the area doing forward rolls in celebration of our winner!
We'd had a shocking start to the season (opening day losing at Wolves 8-1, also losing at home to West Ham 6-1 - the first time I ever saw Bobby Moore, btw!) We were full of hope walking home that we'd 'turned the corner'.. but it wasn't to be that season, eventually going down with Leyton Orient.. Eeeee, 'appy days?!
