Erling Haaland

That makes absolutely zero sense to me. City have never even gone in for a Dortmund player previously and they’re going to make a killing on Sancho.

Also ultimately who would they rather sell to? United who spent last summer low balling them on Sancho or Barcelona who got Dembele to go on strike or Bayern who are their biggest rivals?

Sounds like whoever told you that is having you on.
Their CEO wasn’t happy when we got cleared by CAS. Summat to do with that

We signed Gundogan but they didn't seem averse to the deal at the time. Personally I think they might not like us but they'll be happy as long as he doesn't go to Bayern.

Perhaps. But we've seen similar scenarios before. Jorginhio? Haaland wouldn't be devastated if he ended up at Madrid, I suspect.
Jorginho's case was way different compared to this. We had a deal finalised with Napoli, then Chelsea came in with a better offer and stole him away.

Maybe. Time will tell. I've explained where the info came from in another reply, so your idea is entirely plausible. Watzke fucking hates us, however.

Yes, my apologies, of course we signed Gundo. But it was the least contentious transfer ever IIRC. He was injured as fuck and we could've just said no thanks!

Yes, I've seen Watzke talk shit before, but these guys are all mouth. Money talks. It always has. For City there are some deals where you know that they have positioned themselves early and are prepared to be competitive. This definitely is one of them.

Also I'm a little bit speculating, but I think there is a buyout in his deal. It's been reported previously in Spain too, and Wheeler is absolutely adamant that there is one (hence the Mail ran with it). My guess is Ole told him, and Ole would know.

If there’s a buy out there’s nothing they can do.

By all reports i've seen it doesnt kick in till next summer. Might be more to it, may be the journalists just dont know.

But if it is true, they can ask what they want, including just not selling for any amount offered.

I highly highly dount anyone will get him for 90m, i'd be surprised if he went for anything less than 120m, even in this covid market climate.

I thought the buyout kicks in end of 2022 season? Could be wrong though. And the fee isn't the issue. It's how payments are structured, making him far more attainable for clubs with a little less money available to pay up front. Again, I could be wrong, but a buyout clause isn't dependent on meeting the amount in a single payment.

I think you're wrong and there's a buyout. Obviously I can only go off what is out there and I don't know for certain, but if I were a betting man, I'd bet that all the noise means the buyout is indeed 100 million euros. Which would make sense with it dropping to 75 next summer too.

Other than Gundogan, and in fairness, as tough as they are at negotiating, and they are, they were reasonable on that.

But then we did meet their asking price without fannying about

If we believe the story out of United, they say that they would not be able to pay 90 million pounds in one go this summer, which is what they say the buy out and the only way it can be activated.

EDIT:

Also I've never heard of a buy-out which isn't fully payable before the transfer.

Hopefully, you're right. I suspect United's financial situation is far more precarious than they're letting on. I think the story is a cover, as they would struggle to make a deal work in any capacity (structure, agent fees, wages, bonuses). This gives them an easy out.

Appreciate that. Fyi, i make no claims of my own, nor do i pretend to be right or wrong. I'm only drawing conclusions to what has been reported, assumed or otherwise and basing any opinion on that. I do enjoy it when you and TH drop bits in beyond what is out there to the rest. Hope you are right, and there is a clause, makes everything easier.
I suspect only the relevant parties know that though, at least to the right level of detail.

I know for a fact that at least in Spain the buyout must be paid up front.
