The age of deaths data in England today is certainly not on trend.

43 of the 76 were over 80. 56.6%. Highest in ages.

And 9.2% under 60.

Though at these low numbers the odd one or two can throw things.

Also 7 of the 76 are not in February or March again.

The most deaths today - 6 and 5 - were in North Cumbria and Sherwood Forest.

The NW three were 1 each in Liverpool, Manchester and Salford.

76 England hospital deaths by region today:

25 Midlands, 19 NE & Yorkshire, 12 London, 9 South East, 5 East, 3 North West, 3 South West.

I guess Public Health England will know whether those 43 had been vaccinated, partially or fully.

The vast majority of deaths in the last week so it won't much longer be the case that deaths of over-80s preceded the vaccination programme.

England hospital data wk to wk:

231 / 16 NW / 7%

178 / 14 NW / 8% (23 % wk to wk)

127 / 12 NW / 10% (29 % wk to wk)

101 / 5 NW / 5% (20 % wk to wk)

76 / 3 NW / 4% ( 25 % wk to wk)

True, but this is why I mention how many pre date February or March each day. About 10% today and similar or more most days. And almost all of those are over 80s.

When at these low numbers I suspect any meaning in the data will be low as one or two deaths tip the scales a lot.

The big deal is the continued fall.

Here are the last four weeks of England hospital deaths as they stood at 5 days.

Wk 1 (11 - 17 Feb) 361 - 346 - 304 - 302 - 319 - 288 - 287

wk 2 (18 - 24 Feb) 263 - 234 - 222 - 230 - 184 - 196 - 178

wk 3 (25 Feb - 3 Mar) 166 - 158 - 163 - 155 - 163 - 123 - 123

wk 4 (4 - 10 Mar) 109 - 127 - 98 - 88 - 107 - 91 - 81

Todays 81 is the lowest 5 day total since 18 October.

Northern Ireland data:

1 death - was 2 last week

121 cases - was 144 last week

12.1 % positivity - was 13.7% last week

Weekly total cases 1270 - was 1311 yesterday and 1224 last week

14 care home outbreasks- same as yesterday - was 18 last week

182 patients - up 2 on yesterday - was 220 last week

16 ventilated - down 2 on yesterday - was 25 last week.

Indeed, but as only 8 of the total deaths preceded March today MOST of the deceased over-80s would, all things being equal, have had access to the vaccine.
I agree but sorry I was too vague on this.

What I meant was 8 out of 80 is a bigger fraction than 8 out of 200 - so as numbers overall fall one or two cases disproportionately change % numbers.

As we see in the total numbers - down 25 wk to wk versus down 26 last week BUT this week is 5% better as a fall despite being lower in numbers.

I doubt it is worth looking at the % numbers by age now unless things change drastically as there is too much roomfor noise at these low numbers. That's what I intended to say.

So total deaths today with England out of hospital to come (usually not big on a Monday because of the weekend effect) is 79.

This is the lowest in 5 months.

Wk to wk:- 251 v 191 v 132 v 104 v 79

Great progress on vaccines continues. My wife (54 - sorry) got an appointment this Thursday down the road in Sheffield. If I'd taken my local offer I'd have had to wait till the end of March ! (I went to Wakefield on Sunday).

I visited one of my customers in North Wales earlier and one of my contacts got his first dose last week and he is a perfectly healthy 40 year old.

Three nation cases with England to come today is 825

Wk to wk:- 1156 v 1221 v 817 v 809 v 825

That is flat as a pancake.

Germany just suspended AZ jabs, this is getting out of hand now.

The damage caused by these countries stopping their vaccination programmes could be huge. Sure if tens of thousands of people were dropping dead from blood clots then absolutely stop the vaccinations but to halt them over a few isolated cases which we don't even know are even related to the vaccine is ridiculous.

And sadly the damage is done now. Even if they do their investigations and find the vaccine is safe it's too late now as it's reputation has been damaged and with the internet full of anti-vax bollocks to start with people are just going to refuse to have the vaccine. Which of course will lead to the virus spreading more and maybe even more variants developing.

Time for our government to stand up and point out the facts with regards to the AZ vaccine and blood clots compared to the others.

I'd say the actions and statements from many European countries have made the AZ vaccine almost 'unsellable' to their respective populations. If the millions of administered doses in the UK combined with all the data we now have isn't enough then I'd say it isn't going to be a viable option for many countries.

That's a shame but I can't see the UK perception changing now as more or less everyone will have a relative or friend who has had it.

Keep clear from the AZ Oxford jab,15 country's latest count have banned it.Boris and the shareholders won't be happy.
They have not banned it. These countries are waiting for the results of investigations into the cases of blood clots observed in some people who had recently had the vaccination to see if there is a causal link. It's unlikely but they have chosen to suspend their vaccination plans anyway. That's their choice but I hope they have a plan to get it back on track once they get the proof they need.

He's trolling. He's also trying it on in another thread.
