Do we think there's been any nefarious influence on the reliability of the AZ vaccine (a cheap vaccine) that's harmed its image long term or is this merely a blip and we'll now see a huge rush for the AZ vaccine across the world now the EMA too have passed it (post clot concerns...)?

More importantly, down week on week (which is fairer barometer now we're doing loads more testing) and even more importantly... look at that drop in deaths. Nearly 50%. Ace.

The tests are the key here - so many more added to a new record high.

Why on Earth do they not report a meaningful positivity number like everyone else as few will realise either the week to week or that a few hundred extra cases come from more tests added on since yesterday than used to be common as the entire UK total in one day.

Cases always rise in mid week - like reported deaths do - as the weekend lull is replaced.

They will fall again after tomorrow for a few days as tests will drop.

EMA agree too...

AstraZeneca vaccine is 'safe and effective' and benefits outweigh any risks, says EMA

EMA chief Emer Cooke says the committee has ruled “this is a safe and effective vaccine” and the benefits outweigh any possible risks. The jab is not associated with an increase in the overall risk of thromboembolic events or blood clots, she adds.
This is great news, the alternative doesn't bear thinking about.

There has allegedly been a Russian disinformation campaign.
Any linkies...not that this will be watertight proof!

There were rumours Russian bots 'infiltrated' qanon spreading daft anti vaxx nonsense too.

What a world huh!

Side note, Prof Brian Cox was on the radio earlier enthusing about the vaccinations. He was apparently on a panel (and he's keen to advise this is not his field) that stated this new research has advanced vaccinations by ten years and are could potentially be used for certain cancers (that's been mentioned on here before).

I consider myself to be the Prince of Denmark

Bit odd but fitting. Are we getting to a stage with Covid where we don't need to report deaths every day? How many people died of heart attacks or cancer today. less than 100 is getting to a very negligible number. 50% over 80 sad as it is?

I don't think its implausible next week that every day is under 100. Might be one week too soon, but it feels very, very close. The daily average will defo be I reckon at least.

Unfortunately not a great day for Greater Manchester. Though not a disaster. Its percentage of the NW rises to the highest in 6 months and so the highest since I have kept track of it when it was in big trouble last autumn.

By chance the day to day rise is exactly the rise of one borough so you can all boo Bolton if you wish. Unfairly.

It was up 34 today to 67 cases (second behind Manchester which fell to 85).

GM itself rose by 34 to 457 cases and a whopping 56.8% of the NW region - which today rose by just 18 cases all told to 805. And was 200 behind Yorkshire which was top again - rising by 161 today to 1005.

Much better news is that the 457 GM score was down from 543 seven days ago so most places in GM will see Pop Score falls not rises - and even Bolton is only up 6 week to week.

Salford was third place down 4 on 54 but still climbing as that is up 12 week to week.

Wigan 51 and Tameside 46 also quite high though the former down 15 wk to wk and the latter up just 2

Trafford was best scorer again but up to 20 - the highest 'low' score we have had in GM during the past week. But that is down 10 for Trafford week to week nonetheless so good news.

Bury on 26 next best and down week to week. Stockport 35, Oldham 36 and Rochdale 37 all in a row and all down big week to week too.

UK has had similar blood clot cases with the vaccine and are investigating says scientist in press conference. Her first name is June. That's all I heard Boris call her.

Chris Witty likens the issue to side effects of aspirin and the balance of risk is what they use.

5 people out 11 million is the case ratio for the clot issue and that is many times less than the risk of getting Covid without the vaccine says Whitty.
