He’s not the solution to the problem long term though, his positional awareness is poor.... there’s a reason Zin will continue to get the nod in the higher games..

Yeah I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with that. Zinchenko plays the role differently, he’s much happier playing inside and recycling the ball under pressure. I don’t think Mendy’s positional awareness is irrevocably poor, but due to his sporadic appearances he’s never really got into the rhythm that our game is built on
 
If he can stay fit and maintain a level he showed today, the biggest benefactors of that will be Sterling and now Gabby(right footed LWers), it will allow them to drift about as Jesus did today. Because Mendy will get forward, he will be the one hugging the touch line so they don't have to and he'll alway provide an overlap to create space or receive the ball and get a cross in. Compare that to Zin who stays 20 yards back from the box so they can pass back to him to recycle possession and plays inside so the winger has to stay wide on the touchline to provide the width.
It'd mean needing a double pivot to cover the left which in turn means Gundo not getting forward as often. Horses for courses and all that but has potential to be regular set-up particularly vs counter attacking teams. All depends on Mendy though.

Congratulations to Mendy , decent game and an important goal , but one good game in every dozen isnt good enough , all the "i told you so's" on here well done , but i didnt see any of you getting that excited when the team was announced.
Mendy has had deserved criticism because he has looked nothing like a £60m full back since he arrived at the club , and he is behind Zinchenko and Cancelo in the left back pecking order. that doesnt detract from the fact he had a good game against Leicester and if he played like that more often he wouldnt get criticism.

I told you so's lmfao. We chose not to slate him, we chose to back him and accept he was chosen to play. He'd already had a bad game and we had lost before we kicked off which is typical week after week with some people.

Nobody is saying he deserves to start either as he doesn't, but how does a guy get confidence when people are on his fucking back before he's kicked a ball?

He also didn't cost 60 fucking million

This has always been the case, but the lad is a liability as a defender. He's a decent option to cover Raz on the lw, but we still need a lb that can defend. Delph adapted his game to lb and was an effective defender, but we've not really had this position covered since he left.

But you didnt back him before the game , where is your post stating you are pleased Mendy has been selected ? F*cking nowhere , and how do you know what he cost , you got the clubs accounts ?
