Lipton first, now watch Ashton.

We've dropped them in the shit and they are in full defence mode.

As I said earlier wait until something official has appeared. The usual WhatsApp suspects will also be along shortly to dig their favourites out.

> The Super League development is a direct challenge to Uefa which is to announce its new 36-team Champions League format on Monday, to come into force from 2024.

> The European governing body had thought it had seen off the threat of a breakaway but is now involved in urgent talks with other football bodies about the new development.

> Uefa had succeeded in winning the support of the European Club Association (ECA) board and the European Leagues but it **emerged today that the Super League threat had been revived with the ECA chairman Andrea Agnelli, also the Juventus president, appearing to throw his hat in with the breakaway clubs led by Manchester United and Real Madrid.**

> Other members of the ECA board, who had agreed to the new Champions League format, and Uefa officials have attempted to contact Agnelli since Saturday evening but one source said he “has gone off the radar”.

> **The Super League proposals include:**

> The 15 founder clubs sharing an initial 3.5billion (£3.1billion) euro “infrastructure grant” ranging from £310million to £89million per club which can be spent on stadiums, training facilities or “to replace lost stadium-related revenues due to Covid-19”.

> The format would see two groups of 10 clubs who play home and away, with the top four from each group going through to two-legged quarter-finals, semi-finals and a one-legged final.

> Matches would be midweek and clubs would still play in domestic leagues.

> Clubs would have rights to show four matches a season on their own the digital platforms across the world

> Income from TV and sponsorship would favour the founding clubs: 32.5% of the pot would be shared equally between the 15 clubs, and another 32.5% between all Super League clubs including the five qualifiers.

> 20% of the pot would be merit money “distributed in the same manner as the current English Premier League merit-based system” according to where clubs finish in the competition or group if they don’t make the knock-out stage.

> The remaining 15% would a “commercial share based on club awareness”.

> A cap of 55% of revenues permitted to be spent on salaries and transfers (net).

> A ‘Financial Sustainability Group’ wolUd monitor clubs’ spending.
I’ve been calling for something like that for years now.

I find the Champions League format a contrived load of rubbish. The same teams all seeded into mini groups you’d have to be fucking shit not to qualify from, and the group stages are almost always mind numbingly boring.

Now, it’s guaranteed that you’ll have to play decent teams a number of times in the group stage making it more exciting, and you’re going to have to be fucking really good to get into the knock-out phase, not like shite mini-league formats I mentioned above, and not like full knock-out formats where anyone can get through.

If you win a competition with a system like this proposal, it might be the first time ever you can legitimately call yourself the best team in Europe.

That part of it sounds good.

I think you're misunderstanding.

The story is not that City haven't been offered a place, its not that City won't sign up eventually, its that they haven't done it yet and everyone else has.

If this were ever going to go ahead, City would 100% become a founding member, anyone who thinks otherwise is incredibly naive. This is right up Soriano's alley, the only problems they will have are the "financial responsibility board" etc.
The problem about this is that the UEFA Cl plan (with Tebas likely to be on board) is even worse than the breakaway plan. City are right to stay on the fence in the short term.

Champions League final each year would be Bayern v PSG ! is this clever brinkmanship from Bayern and PSG ? if they didnt join this breakaway league and it fails to get off the ground those two clubs are going to be very very cosy with UEFA.

What exactly does agreeing in principle mean? Hardly sounds like we’re pushing for it.
I’m sure we’ll be dragged through the mud regardless

Probably means we don't want to do it but have to lest we get left in the dust financially by the other teams.

Ok, yep. But we’d never be allowed to match the spending of certain other English clubs. And a 55% limit to me telegraphs that this is all about certain ownerships maximising their profits.

Shame but that's me done with football if that's the case. I hate European football and love the domestic leagues. Sheer greed well.they can poke it.
This is simply replacing the CL. It shouldn’t affect the domestic league.

Believe it when I see it. It's all just a threat based on pure greed to get even more money. Nothing will happen.

If it ever did come to happen though, who would welcome it? Im dead against it but I won't lie, I'd watch the games, at least initially. However, I'd go out of my way to ensure they wouldn't see a penny from me

Weren't they threatening the players of any club in this wouldn't be able to play in the Euro's? How would we get around that? Like it or not players want to play for their countries and if they are blocked from doing so they could jump ship. Feel like the players should have a bigger say in all this considering we would be forcing them into playing in it.

They night threaten that but who's going to watch their tournaments without the star players? They will cave in.

Which we are excellent at.
