The format is good, way better than the current CL format. The problem is the founding member bullshit. Spit money into it and have it Champions only and it would be great. Do it with Tottenham in it every year just for laughs and killing domestic football and suddenly the idea takes a turn not only for the worse but actually disastrous.

We need less football, not more. Either do this for the CL(The right way, not the founding members crap). Bring back the cup winners cup, make the Europa League for the teams slightly under the Champions and not a tournament midtable clubs try to avoid. Less teams in the World Cup, less in the Euros. Football games would go back to being events again, share the income across Europe and fuck the 8th placed Spanish/English/German cloggers. Less is more.

Everyone is getting their panties in a wad. This is just a jostling for position before the announcement tomorrow of the ‘new’ CL format.

I do think people are overreacting when they talk about it obliterating 100 years of football.

It's essentially just an attempt to go back to the early days of the CL when it was invitation only.

There's about 140 professional clubs in the country and 4 play in the Champions League. 8 have hopes of getting in the CL.

It's not good for the game by any means, but for 99% of professional clubs in this country it won't change anything.

Id have no interest in this whatsoever. Anything with guaranteed places for the top clubs (even if that includes City) is a betrayal of everything that makes football such a compelling sport to follow. As much as we mock the ‘history’ clubs, they are right about the importance of history to the game they just fail to realise that there is more to history than what they have won.
