And how is this new super league going to help the clubs suffering from the pandemic in Belgium Holland Norway and pretty much 99% of all historic European clubs you parasitic arseholes.

I know everyone's emotional but at least read the statement before discussing it.

The new annual tournament will provide significantly greater economic growth and support for European football via a long-term commitment to uncapped solidarity payments which will grow in line with league revenues. These solidarity payments will be substantially higher than those generated by the current European competition and are expected to be in excess of €10 billion during the course of the initial commitment period of the Clubs.

they do have solidarity plans. What we need to see is how these actually stack up to the current system.

To be honest all in all this proposal seems very similar to the proposal UEFA are supposed to be unveiling tomorrow. Just fewer teams and only 5 spots for qualifying. Which is shit, but not that different from UEFAs idea.

I suspect UEFAs plan being so anticompetitve is part of the reason why these clubs have felt they can announce their plan.

It’s not like City were going to do UEFA any favours and if the other big boys climb aboard then City are going to climb aboard.

Business wise it makes sense, overseas markets will lap it up. China/Far East, US, will go for it. UEFA is dead in the water and domestic leagues will to the way of the FA Cup as second tier competitions.

Matches will also get staged in Middle East, Far East. Money on offer will be insane.

Getting in as founding members and writing the rule book is better for City than UEFA throwing the rule book at us every year. For City it’s a no brainer.

Sucks for fans like me who prefer domestic league competition and can’t be arsed with CL football, but part of my dislike is the way City were treated so on one hand happy to see UEFA get shafted, on the other don’t think this development is for me.

Trouble is old farts like me aren’t the target market for this shit.
Think in the days to come once the emotion of this has died down this will be the consensus on here. What choice did we have?

I remember when this club stood for what was morally right and not for profit, Instead of doing what was right and backing out, they have caved. Sick to my stomach, disgraceful.

Haha no chance.

Neymar and Mbappes representatives have just seen that 12 clubs are getting $450m for starting a super league and they'll be a free agent in 12 months.

Player salaries at these clubs are going to absolutely expode.
Not if no fucker watches it it will be dead within two years !

Think I'll go back to supporting Chelsea.....

Hang on, I can't, maybe West Ham then, or Leicester, what an utter shit show.

Going to log off and have a few, fuck it, need to take my mind off this shit.

Of course they back it. Them, Arsenal, Spuds, AC Milan etc will be secretly loving it. They just got a huge pile of cash and access to a competition they don't have to earn their way into or get relegated from. They are total winners in this scenario. They bought their way back into relevance.

Will it be impossible to be relegated from? I thought I read on the City statement that 5 teams will qualify on merit. That can't happen every year without some form of relegation. Unless I misread the City statement of course.

Edit - Forget the above actually. Forgot it was a cup competition rather than a league, so of course there wouldn't be relegation. Just potentially a different 5 each season that would qualify.

If the league finished as it is,does this mean, Leicester, West ham, Everton and Leeds qualify for the champions league next season? And villa wolves and Palace get europa?

They’re not fucking fools of course there will be solidarity payments. It’s the same trick that got the PL rolling. The revenues will be obscene and every club not in this just got left for dead. They aren’t going to send enough money for anyone to ever be a threat to them. Us. Now I have to say us because our club threw in with this lot
