Let’s not pretend PSG wouldn’t be all over this super league had their owners not already jumped into bed with FIFA...

There is no way they can withdraw from the ECA before the Qatar World Cup.
I'm not pro PSG mate, I'm just not on the side of any club that has joined this cartel circus and then still thinks winning the UCL means anything anymore.

Some degree of support for the view "fuck uefa, its better to have clubs running it" on here.

Unfortunately, that all hinges on the motivations and the social responsibility of the super clubs.

Uefa are poor but they have a (small? often misjudged) degree of commitment to the game at national and regional level.

Anyone who expects the super clubs to have any concern about this (I.e. everyone else) is nuts. The closed shop element is a clear indication.

It might be a power grab from uefa but a consequence of that is that it is, in effect, a huge power and money grab from every other club in Europe. From Rochdale, to Everton, to Rapid Vienna.

If you want to celebrate a power/money grab from uefa you have to accept that you are really celebrating a power/money grab from all clubs other than these 'elite'. Taking money, competition and the purpose of social institutions straight out of their pockets.

And that's a pretty immoral position to be in.
US and Spanish clubs carving the game up. Then say to the rest join us or rot.

But how can it even get off the ground?

Creating an elite coterie of 12-15 clubs that have differentiated themselves from every other club in the World?

There are fans that don't support these clubs who will never be allowed enter - no matter the investment or success they achieve. It's basically ripped the fabric of football apart. This is just the livener. It will get worse and be completely global in a few years. This is just the start man.
There may well be truth in what you say about the global expansion but at the end of the day the CL formats is flawed particularly with the new intended changes anyway.
As I said as long as there is a process for allowing new teams in and excluding others on merit (including the so called founder members) I don’t have a problem with it.
Of course it’s elitist but the system we have already is. The difference is this to me would appear to be “managed” by a bigger group of clubs than the current cosy cartel.

Apparently 2 French clubs are in discussions, so PSG have to be one you would guess. I had read that the 12 clubs expect another 3 to join.

Whatever you think of FIFA, EUFA, the g14, the ECA, you just have to take this on merit

is a closed system of elite clubs something you want to buy into as a fan?

The proposals re sealed off transfers within the league will resurface. you can bet the cash allocations will be stilted to the architects.

its just not a sport I want to watch or pay money to go and see

if e domestic game survives then maybe I’d watch that but there will be a hell of a lot of dead rubbers every year with the competitive element of European qualification taken out

I have no idea on the details, but for me this is not football. We love promotion, relegation, the level(ish) playing field, the joy of seeing a smaller club pull off a shock (from the fa cup to the Leicester league win), we love the local derbies especially when we play in cups. I am very disappointed that we have put our hat in the ring for this, I have no enthusiasm for a European league and can’t see me watching City in that type of competition :(

Hey, if we are in the same ESL group of 10 as United and Liverpool we get to play them both a minimum of 4 times a season - home and away in both the PL and ESL :)

I had rather buy a club on Football manager in the conference than support this shit of 12 clubs.

Don't they need 20 teams for their format of two groups of 10?
As it stands they are 8 shy. I hope everyone who wasn't asked originally fucks them off if they come crawling.
All this is because utd and liverpool are in debt and their nobhead American owners are fat greedy fuckers who think they are the top dogs.
Am absolutely seething that these cunts one way or another have ruined the English game and they've made every other **** jump into bed with them.
It was last October these rumours first surfaced and utd and liverpools names was the frontrunner of this new league forming.
I hate these red mardarse cunts a million times more than I did yesterday, they have ruined the beautiful game for each and everyone of us and if, and it's a big if, if it all goes tits up and it doesn't form then these two shithouse clubs need fucking from every angle.

I wonder who is providing the finance for this ?

Can anyone think of someone with oodles of cash who might be interested ?

Maybe, just maybe, it is AD pulling the strings here. In comparison the other owners don't have a pot to piss in.
JP Morgan have backed the initiative with $6bn in debt financing

Where are there refs coming from, who controls them ?

the current system may be elitist but it's open ended to a certain extent - you can break in with investment etc.

This is racketeering in it's purest form. The ladder has been pulled up. They've looked to seal the market for themselves. It's should actually be illegal.

The CL however City fans despise the organizers is still a proper European competition. A competition compose of top clubs from just 3 or 4 countries is a terrible idea. This essentially relegates CL to a second tier competition because most of the big clubs in top 5 leagues will be playing in the Super League. No more playing the likes of Dortmund, Shakhtar, Napoli etc because we've essentially just separated ourselves from them so we could join a closed competition of elite super clubs. It just reeks of arrogance and hypocrisy after we fought tooth and nail to get to the top. In the end we became the very monsters we fought so hard to defeat.

The levels of hysteria in the press about this are genuinely incredible.

You've got actual reporters suggesting a Tory government might nationalise the football clubs and seize 51% of ownership of these privately owned businesses to distribute to fans.

Good job there’s no hysteria on here then ;-)

Whatever way i look at it we will be knifed
Do you think that every single decision/idea is some kind of ploy against us? Literally everything you post is as though everything is anti City. Your club is invited to a league formed from other super clubs from our nation and others. One of the elite. And all you can think about is how it is going to be another plot to topple us?

Really weird.

Sorry SWP's back, but even a bit pissed at 03:00 the use of 'is' is actually correct.

City is a singular term, therefore 'is' is the correct way to refer to us. For example 'John is a twat' means that this John is a twat in the same way that City is a founding member means that City is a twat

Corrected.
