As I thought, we either join or get left behind and everything we have built over the last 10-15 years count for nothing (basically)
This is FFP MK2, only this time we’ve been invited to join “protecting the elite”
I understand why we’ve done it, though I don’t agree with it.

So from the little Ive read, if us and the super league clubs get our way and UEFA?FIFA cant block this, we will play:

Prem fixtures
All domestic cup fixtures
CL league fixtures
New Super league fixtures (2 groups of 10 = at least another 18 games, home and away fixtures) - if you finish top 3 then you it goes to knock out comps from there....

Thats a lot of extra fixtures with Pep continually bemoaning the amount of games played by players (and I havent factored in International matches etc) - Penny for his thoughts right now!

IF this goes ahead and UEFA dont block it/cant sanction the clubs that have joined it, the prem league for instance could become wide open....with the number of games being played no way us and the others can continually play at peak levels and all managers will have to rotate big time......

One thing Ive only just read is that regarding transfers, under the SL rules we (and others involved) will only be allowed to spend a certain proportion of income/earnings on transfer.....is this correct? If so does that mean our transfer budget is limited across all comps or can we buy players for some comps and not others - that wouldnt make any sense so it cant be that so im presuming our transfer budget would be limited across all comps.

IF UEFA win the legal battle, what will we as a club do? We wouldnt surely drop out of the premiership and domestic comps just to play in this would we......I just cannot imagine that happening.

Have we pushed the other clubs to do this with our beating of UEFA at CAS - is it their reaction to being threatened by our growing presence, performance and power and now we have to join them because we are better on being onside with this than against it.....?

Oh there is. It's still there in all it's glory, still in the hunt for 3 trophies, still with the best manager in the world and still with the best players in the world. Entering a new competition doesn't change any of that.
those 3 trophies mean fuck all. They've just signed them away. they've basically said 90 of the 96 clubs they compete with domestically aren't worth a fuck and they're better. Any results against any outside of the 6 are meaningless.

They are "elite"

How are we "elite". We've never fucking won a European Cup.

My 2cents ...

I’m disappointed we are now part of the elite trying to look after themselves at the cost of others.

I understand that we could not afford to NOT be part of this.

I believe everything will not pan out as its described at the moment. All parties will make some adjustments, I’m just not sure what those adjustments will be.

I do know, PL can’t retain current TV contracts without the Elite teams, neither can CL.

One thing I haven’t seen IN OFFICIAL PRINT, is any statement that this elite league will replace any other competition. They have stated they will continue in domestic competitions, but is this an alternative to CL ?

Happy to reign in my reaction until everyone has played their last card and we can see who is holding the full house and who has the busted flush.

It’ll be the end of competition in domestic leagues though. It’ll ruin leagues.
Probably not in Portugal, France, Holland, Ukraine and all the European Leagues in Eastern Europe. The arrogant bastards think they are all small timers and don't count as they won't increase the input into their coffers.

City should be ashamed of themselves.

Always thought of him as a ****, but credit to him for speaking out about this shitshow.

How will uefa back the super league, that would be like turkey's voting for Christmas, uefa will be out of business if the super league went ahead

they will be out of business they don't

uefa stand to lose everything if all the main teams are walking away from european football and champions league
plus all of the board have step down last night and this morning leaving it a ship sinking faster than the titanic

And there you have it. The clubs are not concerned about the good of the game. They would be delighted if their players were banned from international competition and would treat the Premier League as the lesser competition and play weakened teams. Don’t care about negative publicity either. It’s official. We don’t matter.

When i last looked it was Pep who picked the side and not board members. Always sceptical with sky's 'unnamed sources' and when you think about what Sky have to lose here, i wont believe any of how they spin this. Not saying the premise of revenue and profit being at the heart of this, but the rest just sounds like bollocks.

And what's left for the premier league if this goes through. It will be a shadow league like the under 23s league. The club board member who talked to sky today said that they would be playing weakened teams to rest players for midweek games. Do you think the tv deal for the for the premier league won't be affected

We played a weakened team vs. Leeds for the Champions League last week. How is that different?

They will still compete for the League title.

English football sold it's soul in 1992

Football clubs around the world sold their souls when they were bought out by billionaires

Manchester City FC sold it's tradition when the owners dropped the 'FC' from the name

It's a capitalist society - Shit like this happens every day around the world. Winners and losers.

As football fans, what have we actually 'lost'? - Answer, in real terms, a lot less than we will 'gain' in the long term.

Traditional football died in 1992, so what are we crying about now...? The loss of an old friend? I think not.

I'm a traditionalist. I've loved football through the 60s to the present day. I've just loved it a bit less every few years, as it became more and more of a business than a sport. Same with a lot of things in life. The departures of traditional football men like Wardle and Bernstein signalled the beginning end for me, but even so, I still kept buying my seasoncards.

The world of 'entertainment' moves forward - What is happening is outside our control. We can stamp our feet and type long messages on social media etc, but at the end of the day, it's someone else's ball, and they make the rules. We can either keep going to games, or look for something else to entertain us. I wouldn't blame anyone who doesn't go again.

I said years ago that I did not trust overseas owners involved in English football, and later expressed serious doubt over the long-term intention of Sheikh Mansour?ADUG in relation to the club. I felt at the time that we were getting in bed with the wrong people, and was criticised for even daring to question Mansour and Co.

Billionaires are billionaires because they're ruthless bastards - They don't give a shit about the 'little people' paying a couple of thousand or so a year towatch football. For every one who leaves, there are 20 tourists waiting to buy their ticket.

I look back to 2008 and remember celebrating the takeover. At the time, a rag mate (an early member of the FC United movement) said to me; "be careful what you wish for... You just might get it".

This is us 'getting it' now. The owners are heartless bastards who have never actually given a shit about the fans, tradition etc. It was all lip-service, keeping ex-players like Summerbee etc around to provide fans a tentative link to the past... It's a sham.

I'll probably still go to games in a Super League, just like I'd still go to games if we were in the Conference. It's a tough habit to break after 60 years.

One thing I do know for sure though... Manchester City died yesterday when they put Glazer's message on the website... If Mansour and Co, Pep, and all the players f*cked off tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a single tear about it. It's just killed off a bit more of my love for the game.
Brilliant post

I understand why we’ve done it, though I don’t agree with it.

I just don't see it that way. These were Khaldoon's words at the end of last season...

“Some projects continue, and we see the sense in expediating them. Others because of the challenges of COVID we’ve had to put on pause. But one thing is clear… we can’t continue to think in the same way.”

When you read those words now you have to wonder whether the club has been behind this idea for some time.

I believe it’s more a case of the club turning it’s back on us.

I don't agree. Whilst they are the owners, they are also custodians and have to protect the long-term interests of the club?

You and me will be long gone one day, there are no kids to take our place, as the song states.

The way people consume life is changing quicker than I ever thought possible. Globalisation is happening across all society and will continue to do so.

It was sad that so many people lost their jobs at Debenhams, but the likes of Amazon have come along and have driven them to the wall, doing it quicker and better than the High Street.

I'm 46, so have seen how City have changed during my lifetime, the club as we once knew it died a long time ago.

I like this version better than the one I grew up with, it was shit, barring the banter with my mates and the dreams of City one day winning everything in sight.

As I say, people are entitled to their own viewpoint, but the club will know why the dots have to join up.

There is a massive echo chamber at present, fulled by SKY and Uefa, social media, all with their own agendas.

My agenda will always be City being at the top.
