But PSG didn't sign so Bayern out

Yes but that is the only workable combination if you ban the other three teams left that have joined the ESL. Or you have a default victory and hand it to PSG and make a mockery of your own competition to the advantage of the ESL.

Only precedent I can think of that resulted in a default win, is a tragedy. A Brazilian team died in a plane crash on their way to the final of a continental competition and their opponents agreed the trophy should be awarded posthumously out of respect and solidarity.

Money is an issue but closed competitions, that's the piss take.
Then you'll be equally annoyed by the announcement that the Champions League will offer guaranteed places to the bigger clubs?

The competition needed slimming down not expanding, there are far too many predictable matches which noone wants to watch.

It's tough to find a solution as the self-anointed "Big six" will only be happy if they have a permanent place in the conpetition which obviously reduces the competitiveness and credibility of it.

It made me laugh reading Joel Glazer going on about the "football pyramid." There is no pyramid if you close off the opportunity for clubs to progress higher up.

This morning I was confident that this was a bargaining tactic on the part of the clubs involved. After hearing Ceferin and others quotes from today I'm less confident a deal will be agreed between UEFA and the ESL clubs. Very worrying times for all those that care about the future of the sport.

It's fucking disgraceful and absolutely filled with hypocrisy is what it is
Turning their back on the club because it's joined the elite, despite indulging in the success funded by the person who had now shifted the club into that elite group.

If I choose to turn my back on my club, it has nothing to do with City being an elite club. It’s 100% that I don’t agree with a closed shop, invitation only money printing league as that will be terrible for football

Can you explain how you deem that to be hypocritical?

What were your thoughts on the CL when we were a mid table or yo yo club? Did you think it was fair that the same 4 teams were coining it in every season, increasing the disparity of those who had & those who hadn’t?

Did you think that was fair & great for City & the wider footballing family?

These owners are not stupid to rake in all this extra income only to send over on paychecks to the player.

salary cap will come in to make sure the profit wont be wasted on overpaid subs etc.

why anyone think current state of financials with Barcelona in a billion in debt etc was able to keep on going?

Covid hit clubs so hard and not everyone so lucky as City that owners can put the money in. Kroenke, Henry aint wanna put in anything and they losing a lot too due to covid.

current corrupt Uefa has to go, and rightly so, now they make themselves as saviour of football but we know that trick all too well.

E
I'll lay you odds tonight he uses it as a platform to quit.

He's an apologist for the scouse deluded fan base, he's totally bought into the cult.

More likely to now martyr himself with the Bayern job on offer and having already fallen out with FSG in January for not getting money to spend.
as thinking same thing before
He wants a way out now they can’t win anything and what a great chance

Is it just me or does the sight of UEFA pushing the moral integrity & honesty of the beautiful game, SKY adopting the holier than thou high ground and punters such as Neville going full Warnock, stick in the throat.

All these fuckers will be gorging at the trough when the inevitable happens.

"Welcome to the dawn of a new PPV era, Juve v Barca...its the ESL...its here, its football for the next generation....AND IT'S LIVE".

Fuck off.

Yes.. it fucks over the 14 clubs that effectively cannot dream of qualifying for the elite euro competition as its a closed shop. It also removes a lot of the competition as the 6 super league clubs know their place is cemented so won't be pulling up any trees around this time of year
Assuming one of the 5 “merit” places goes to the PL, it actually gives those 14 clubs a far far greater chance than they have present in the PL to qualify for the CL no?

The more I think about it the more I think we've signed up to bailing out the rags again, we've done more than once during our history and the ungrateful cunts treat us with utter contempt every time, should have stood our ground and played it by ear, I'm sure there's some at the club regretting joining now

Basically anyone who's posting the list of names is almost certainly doing so with the intention of causing some sort of trouble or commotion directed at other posters for having an opinion. I can only speak for myself but if I see it I will be removing it.
Nobody needs to post their names as they are obvious to anyone who clicks on the votes. Nevertheless they are as entitled as anyone to give their opinion

Yeh I may well be underestimating the sheer financial prize offered right now by tapping into white guys in Wisconsin or wherever, as opposed to some truly global market that's more future potential. It's easy to get caught up in the global nature of European football when (for example from my experience) you can watch the premier league in a bar in Dar Es Salaam, forgetting that these fans are worth fuck all in broadcasting/advertising revenue in the big picture.

That's a really interesting point about the Mexican league. I suppose you could imagine, years into the future, a proper inter-American (i.e. the whole Americas) club competition getting big audiences.

Funny story about immigrants to the US and football, since I've nowhere else to share it. My wife is from Miami but her family are from the Caribbean and love football, to such an extent her brother is called Edson (as in, Pele's real name) and her cousin Diego. She was telling some German bloke this one time and he was like "do you have another cousin called Klinsmann?" As if Klinsmann is the third name on that list? Talk about German arrogance.
That's a good story!

Liga MX is trying to connect with MLS in some ways I'm not sure I understand but the leagues are friendly with one another. Many ex-Liga MX players in the MLS and some vice-versa; Chivas actually once had a franchise club in LA that folded (now replaced in the region by LAFC along with the Galaxy).

I do think you're right though that Asia just given its sheer population size and general growth rate is the biggest potential long-term future SL market, with the US as a more lucrative per-fan intermediate step.

Some still think they are great. I’d trade the last 12 years for us not to be involved in this charade.

it’s virtually a closed shop, no top 4 qualifying and the same teams every year.
That doesn't sound a million miles away from the new CL format - doesn't that ensure entrance for the 'istree clubs wherever they finish?
