The G14 wanted more money from the European Cup & threatened to setup the ESL. UEFA oblige by replacing the European Cup with the Champions League.
The G14 STILL want more money & threaten another ESL. UEFA expand the CL to oblige, but the G14 attempt to setup the ESL in any case. The ESL is strangled at birth, but no one thinks about the additional matches, & the effect on the players.
Is it time the Champions League reverts to being about Champions only again?
Wouldn't this also create a stronger Europa League made up of the rest?

It's not just the extra games but there's the added provision for 2 history clubs in case they don't qualify automatically.
These history spots in the Champions League almost become permanent spots as well because how will you ever slip down the coefficient table if you get one of these historic spots, which gets you back in the Champions Legaue to build up your coefficient.
It's stupid and needs binning, luckily after what the 12 clubs did, UEFA has the power to sack it off, which I'm convinced was only there due to appease them anyway.

I think that something like this is here to stay in the competition unfortunately. The only way it becomes even remotely palatable to me would be if they limit selection to only 1 year's participation through this route for a certain time period so it's not benefitting the same clubs over and over.It’s a joke. Basics...
Increase to 36 teams each team to play 10 games against "teams of varying strengths".
2 legged play off games after that.
Reducing domestic leagues to 18 teams (PL have already said no to this).
Liverpool and MANUre to be included regardless of the previous seasnon's performances.

It's not quite as bad as the ESL but it's still going out of its way to appease the 'istry boys: more matches between "big" clubs and places reserved for those ailing "big" clubs who aren't good enough to qualify on merit. It all sounds familiar.... Wake up Alexander, you haven't been listening.
