Liam Delap - Ipswich player 2024-25

I hope we don’t make a mistake with this lad. We might have the answer to our forward problem already at the club. Lot of noise surrounding him so maybe a loan is the best route to test his capabilities. I can’t see pep using him next season.

Surely it's up to the player/agent.

He's watched how the club approached Foden's introduction into the squad, and if somebody is keeping his feet on the ground and he moves up to train with the senior players, then he should be fine imo.

He's still very young but does look to have outgrown EDS level football. In terms of ball retention etc. he does not look a natural fit for a Pep team and so could not be dropped into the first team seamlessly.

He could be coached to play better that way if he stays with us but he would have more chance of first team minutes if he goes on loan.

My feeling is that if we could get him the right loan at a team that plays decent football that might be the best option. Somewhere near to Manchester and include a break clause so he can be recalled at Xmas if City want to.

Blackburn Rovers looks like a good destination - relatively local and they have played the lads we have loaned them over the past couple of seasons.

Pep has stated Delap isnt going out on loan...though could this change after pre season and the first part of next season? I think pep pretty much made his mind up about foden after watching him play against the likes of utd in pre season....so Delap has the same chance to impress.
If as people say his ball retention is poor he will need to improve that it he will be sold eventually....no way pep plays a forward who cannt do that

I wonder if a move to Anderlecht would be a good move for him., Nmecha has had a decent time there and now looks likely to be sold on off the back of his goal scoring this season. We know Vinnie would look after him and set him right, the Belgian league is fairly competitive and it could be a good stepping stone for him.

Fair shout,it just feels a bit obscure.

Being in a similar loan situation, its not doing Lewis Fiorini any harm though.

Some players can perform at 18,Mbappe,Rooney,Haaland.. others mature later, Kane. We dont know yet with Delap, as he hasnt really had a run of games. In the first team next season which is a good sign. Would be happy with Jesus,Haaland and Delap.Always more of a buzz about players coming through from the academy and succeeding like Foden.Hope it happens for him and City.

Win the next premier league game and then he can play in the first team whilst Jesus can concentrate on the cup games. I wouldn't mind playing another youngest as well maybe Palmer or Doyle .
I would like to see Delap get some minutes in the league but my heart wants to see as much of Aguero as possible and for him to sign off with a few classic Kun strikes.

I would obviously like to see him in our final game, but otherwise i can live without sentimentality.Delap is our future, that is where the focus should now be.

There's room for two strikers. All I'm saying is Jesus is saved for the cup games. No reason to play and risk him in a league that's already won. I'd also add Rodri and Dias to the protect list as well. Dias is too important and Rodri has a lack of cover. Yes Fern can play there but in the CL you're up against young quick world class players and he might struggle with his speed somewhat.

I generally agree, but Sergio isn't just someone, and hierarchy within a team is a key aspect. I even think Sergio's team mates would be furious if Delap would play with Sergio roasted in the stands.
Media wankfest incoming too, suggesting Sergio's statue like sitting on a bench...

That's a distraction we don't need in our season finish with finals galore and maximum team play needed.

Other than injury crisis Delap will have to wait for next season for some minutes. Future has to wait a bit in this case.

Seeing Bellingham playing like that in the Champions League makes me hopeful we can play him in the cup games next season. Could save us a ton, especially if we’re not splashing out on Haaland, Kane, Lukaku etc.

If we won the League early, I think Pep will rather give Eric Garcia some minutes than giving Delap a chance.

FWIW Pep was asked about Garcia yesterday and he said he's not in the squad since he's on his way out. So I think Delap may stand a chance.

Although had Garcia decided to stick around then yes, Garcia definitely would have been higher up in the pecking order.
