Do you enjoy the Champions League?

As a competition it has its similarities with The Carabao Cup in that no one really gives a fuck about The Champions League until you get past Christmas but as far as I can see (and I'm happy to be proved wrong on this) the biggest difference between The Carabao Cup and The Champions League is that The Champions League is not greatest cup competition in the world which we've won 8 times.

I'll be 100% honest.

If we're in it, I like it. If we aren't, I really don't care. Unless a team I don't like are in it, then I kind of care but for the opposite reasons. This year's CL I care about for obvious reasons.

It's probably a lazy attitude but here I am anyway.

I have never been that much of a telly watcher football wise - since 1992. I admit it, the fact that the rags were winning everything really turned me off. I do attend every City home game and get to a few aways every season. Love the League Cup and the FA Cup too.

I never got into the whole Champions League love in, even Bolton and Owdum fans at work eulogised over it.

So it's been hard getting excited about it, even now, the whole UEFA shitshow has left me a bit jaded about it. Sad about that really as this is where we aspired too from Day One of the Takeover I suppose.

I sign up to every cup scheme, because I am a lazy git and would never get round to buying a ticket for a group game, my wife has seen some cracking games when I have been not arsed about going. Barca being a point in fact! Missed the Bayern comeback due to having to have one of the cats put to sleep - I am not kidding.

May 29 seems ages away yet, so who knows? I will of course be watching it and if we get a chance to watch it together, like we did for the Brighton game I reckon that would be pretty cool.

I wish I didn't feel this - meh - about it, I just think I would feel a bit of a fraud if I suddenly started getting mega giddy about a competition I had hardly got that excited about in years gone by.

If you win the champions league it doesn’t make you a Stella club but you can’t be classed as one without winning it. Have to get it on the honours list or else its absence will always be noted.

Do you not feel that the same corruption exists domestically as well though? We've just managed to overcome that a lot sooner and because it's 38 games it's a lot harder for bad decisions in a few games to derail us?

When you look back at our experience in the CL in previous seasons, there's the penalty at Anfield which could have made it 3-1 (we'd have possibly missed it anyway!). There's the Sane goal wrongly ruled out in the return leg which makes it 2-0 at halftime and therefore advantage City at that stage. Then the Spurs game where we get a penalty and miss it (but was it a penalty?), the handball goal from Llorente which would be ruled out now... and we're out.

There are a lot of close calls and definite corruption but we beat them in the courts, we've stayed in the competition and we're now in the final.

For me, my mentality is that the best way to make our point is to win it. They've tried so hard to ban us and quite probably given us some dodgy calls too, but it hasn't stopped us and winning it would be the ultimate insult for them. The same way winning the league was monumental. Not just because we won it, but because the rags were so close to. It was all the more special for how it happened.

I feel like, in not caring about the CL, we're at odds with the club and players across the world. We're giving into UEFA whereas we should be taking them head on and trying to dominate their competition to prove we can't be stopped.
dont get me wrong i will love it if we win as the boys and the club want it and it would be a big fuck you to uefa but i cant love it for any other reason , i have watched too many games where we got screwed over . Like you say the league we can overcome it and i love that , i am hesitant not because of who will be playing but who the officials might be

They see/saw winning the premier league in the exactly the same way.

Who gives a shit? It didn't reduce the euphoria when we won it. The exact same applies to the Champions League.

Why bother supporting City if your overriding emotions are cynicism of the owners instead of desire for success?

Given everything this club has been through I'd say that anyone who isn't desperate to win the biggest club football trophy in the world for the first time does not genuinely care about the club.
That last line is disgusting , excelled yourself there

I retain an interest in it whilst City are playing in it. The money is significant so I realise it is important to the club and it is clear players want to play in it and compete. However I am no lover of UEFA and the booing of its shitty jingle does make me smile.

Am I glad we reached the final? Yes

Do I want us to win it? Yes, if only to get the 'monkey' off our backs and shut the dicks up who's idea of any club's 'histwy' is based solely upon how well they have performed in Europe...

Do I respect the competition? No, I thinks its made-up, over-hyped sh*te, full of it's own self-importance, made up by fat, corrupt eurocrat sorts, full of their own self-importance, who have taken what was a great competition between true national champions, pitted against each other, winner takes all, like our FA Cup, and turned it into today's mockery of a competition, based solely on money and keeping their 'elite' clubs in powerful positions, denying through FFP the opportunity for other clubs to reach the heady heights - and all that UEFA bollocks about the ESL had me in hysterics of laughter.. "not putting the fans first" "destroying the game 'WE' all love"!!!?? Really, lads..? so we're having to play the Final where exactly chaps... and what exactly happened in Moscow a few years back?

It stinks. I will never hold it in any regard. None. I would sooner we won it and then handed the trinket back to its fat, corrupt, self-important proponents and walked off the pitch never to join in it ever again... That won't happen of course but one can dream.

But that's me.

Now bring on the 2021-22 Carobou Cup!

Funny how you don't see many people lauding the FIFA Club World Cup or the UEFA Super Cup as the highest honour in football. It is what it's always been, a parade competition.

Might have had value when it was genuinely a "Champions" league, not so much now.

Exactly how I feel. Apologies for going a bit Keegan but I would love it if we won the thing then nonchalantly just walked off and told them to get fucked.

I used to love watching the European Cup as a kid but the whole CL thing leaves me a little cold, the 'istree clubs seem to get a lot of beneficial decisions & having groups means the chances of upsets are far fewer.
We won't get any plaudits if we win it this year, the narrative will just change from 'you've never won it' to 'you've only won it once'.
In saying all that, it's the pinnacle of a players career at club level & the owners obviously want it.
Now we're in the final i hope we go on to win it but the League title will always mean more to me personally.

Now that we proved we can reach the final, can we trade it with Leicester City for FA cup final, it's Chelsea either way!

I don’t like the fact that you can qualify for it by finishing in the top 4 so therefore are not the best.
Scousers did not win it by being the best in England and if Spuds had won they definitely were not the best team yet they made the final.
Likewise we qualified for this seasons comp by not being the best last season so to me the whole process is not right.
Now I admit to a lot of my mates I am a football hypocrite and if City win it I will be ecstatic but it’s not a patch on a league title and in its current guise it never will be.

Woooooa a few unhappy people here. Whatever your views the team deserve it, and they deserve our support.

If you don't want to support them fair enough I guess. But get this, we're beating UEFA and their game. We've fucked them over so much by getting to the final, that deserves support too I think
