Don’t mind him he is overrating Haalands brand. He thinks haaland is a very massive global brand. Sure He has potential to grow into a massive brand because he has been hyped from young age but signing haaland for 150m now no matter how he wants to spin it is bad business.
Is it really bad business? I certainly think I could build a business case around paying this,
- I doubt it’d be €150m in cash something more like £80m cash, waiver of Sacho sell on clause plus £30m performance based payments (connected to Goal scored in a season, champion league win) adding up to a theoretical €150m.
- He’s young so vs say Kane at £100m he has a resale value in 5year. Ok we wouldn’t want to sell him but comparing purchases, and cost it’d have to factored in
- We have let go of arguably the face of city in Aguero. I get a lot of people would say that‘s KDB or Foden (looking forward) but in any terms a player with a truly global appeal is leaving us and needs replacing. Forwards; the Roy of the rovers will always have the biggest commercial appeal vs midfielders
- in Footballing terms losing Aguero we need a forward, ok people may argue the current system is working but this is a extraordinary season and most I think would agree for continued success every team needs that person who’ll scored guaranteed 20+ goals a season for them
- You're buying Potential. Today messi, Ronaldo, Lesandowski, Neymar, Salah are probably the most marketable players, we are unlikely to buy all of these players so who is the next big thing? Arguably Haaland & Mbappe are the two players (I think Mbappe more) and you have to pay for potential. I was in my local park the other day and a kid was wearing a Haaland shirt so it already has some appealin that demographic.
- Revenue protection, if we don’t sign Haaland who does? If chelsea sign him does that increase there changes of domestic & European success which Impacts our successful negatively which would impact our commercial growth? Keeping him out of the hands of a competitor has a price.
- Commercially signing Haaland sends a signal to the market that we are one of the big clubs in the world (though that’s obvious already), creates a buzz and a belief that we have a sustained 5/10 year vision of success and growth with the potential of linking up (potentially) with the worlds next biggest star. This has a $ figure.
I think you can quite easily make a case for the €150m fee given his goal figures to date, age (sell of fee), profile & our lack of a strike in our team. Buttttt financial it’s about the total cost so we needto consider wages to and that’s maybe we’re this all falls apart....
It all depends how much he’s looking for, who owns image rights (though I think our parent company runs this) and split between guaranteed & performance salary. I think it’s difficult (nigh impossible) to build a case that he’s Commercially worth £600k a week especially when it wouldn’t just be his cost but other player who would also demand increases if we paid that sum.
Honestly I can’t believe we won’t be replacing Aguero this summer, that’s big shoes to fill commercially & footballing wise. I don’t believe our owners are stupid so they knew this was going to costs north of £100m and us announcing his departure was the biggest signal to us fans that we will see a incoming striker this summer. However of Haaland wants £600k a week he won’t becoming to city!
I’d like to believe behind the scenes hand have been shook on the Haaland deal and that he’s already coming but there I suspect is many twists (and newspaper inches) in this story, we’re in a strong position but it’s far from guaranteed and I’m sure there other names in mind / backup Plans if we don’t recruit a top player (ings lol)
I believe our owners have a vision for our club & brand, a pathway to take us to the next level, to be the biggest club in the world which I believe is there vision and arguably for that we need a “galactico” signing and arguably Haaland could seen as the player to improve us both on and off field . Haaland absolutely might make 100% business sense to our owners, and they understand Business involves risks and of course there’s lots of risk in this deal, but if he fails the performance related bonuses don’t kick in and he costs of €100m which is what every other player would costs but if he succeeds he could be part of a project adding another £1bn onto the value of the club.
