Erling Haaland

Can’t believe there are people still on this thread thinking we will sign him this summer despite the compelling arguments we wont

we have just hit on a winning style of play that utilises playing without a striker. We are one game from a treble and were two games from the quad. Why change it ?

he’s available for half the price in 12 months. No serious business spends north of 60m for the privelage of a 1 season loan. If he wants to come now, he’ll come in next year.

they are less inclined to sell now they have secured CL football next year

i have doubts we can afford him this year

i think we will sign grealish and a left back , perhaps a holding mid if fern leaves
Firstly, we played this system due to our strikers being injured for large parts of the season. If we can adapt to play with no striker we can sure as hell adapt to play with one again. While we have won the league it isn’t with a high points total compared to previous years and our goals scored is far fewer than years prior.
Secondly why would a serious business not sell someone for double the price they’d get next season eh? Why would Dortmund just lose out on another 70+ Million? There is obviously room to negotioate.
3rd point is interesting, I don’t think making CL football matters at all. If they weren’t in the CL they’d lose out on CL money meaning they’d probably have to sell for more to remain financially stable. Arguably it is not as important.
Finally you say we can’t afford it and that may seem reasonable given our loss in last years accounts but I think at this point we’d have distanced ourselves from the transfers if we couldn’t afford it as we don’t like being used as a bargaining chip.

So yeah there’s plenty of reasons to believe

There are no “compelling arguments we won’t”, just a plethora of cliches like the ones you spilled that keep being thrown around by a number of people.
If the club behaved the way some people think, we never would have signed Pep Guardiola as our coach.
Anyone looking at this coldly will realize that the most “compelling arguments”, which have been debated to death, are on the side of us being the favorites for this signing and getting it done this summer, after winning the UCL, which is when it’s easier to do it and as a gift for Pep for extending and finally getting the main target delivered.
How strange that the best team and best club in the world, looking for a striker, would sign the best available prospect, huh... shocking...

in recent years they've had 2 obvious problems and they spent big money to solve them. they demonstrated that they will spend big if they think they need to. and to be fair they've never been shrinking violets in the transfer market.

in case you didn't pick up on it. i hate that club so much. from klopps "we'd never spend the sort of money city do" rhetoric of a few years ago through to the way their fans repeatedly demonstrate their lack of class outside of the ground to the hypocrisy of their funding in the 70s and the fines/corruption of their current owners and sponsors.

hmm a late night rant. i'd better not click "post repl..
They don't need to spend big on a striker though, they've got Jota and Mane(at the moment anyway) so I can't see them spending £100mill+ on Haaland (generational player or not), especially after the last year. The only caveat would be if they sold Mane who will be into the last 2 years of his contract this summer. He's only 29 so could fetch them a goodly wedge yet.

Edit: I realised way after the fact that I should have been talking about Firminio rather than Mane. Whoops.

I cannot see Liverpool being able to go in for Haaland, and I also could not see him choosing them over us, or even Chelsea for that matter. There is no assurances that they will get anywhere near what they achieved last season, in the near future.

Can't say any of those are 'compelling' arguments at all, just points to be debated. Especially the fee it would take this summer.

Dortmund haven't secured CL football either, they need 2 draws or a win in their last 2 games to do that or for Eintracht to slip up in their final game.

I wouldn’t say frequently. Even when Jesus has played, he’s not been a traditional striker.
Frequently is probably lost in translation, but he has been the forward he’s been turned into. And with Pep nothing is traditional. Haaland here would be used more as he were used at Salzburg but with what he has developed at Dortmund. The sky is the limit

Because we let Aguero go, and with no replacement we should have learned that lesson from not replacing Vinnie. Jesus is not clinical enough and Torres unproven consistently.

We’ve only played without a striker this season because we have had no choice. Aguero out injured a lot, poor finishing from Jesus means we’ve had to cope. We can’t keep competing for trophies with a major component missing and just hoping that two or three midfielders can keep getting 30-40 goals between them.

Also, if we don’t sign Haaland this summer then someone else will, whether that’s rag, Chelsea or one of the big Spanish sides, all those fuckers find money somewhere when they really want to. None of them will wait to see if they can get him half price next season.

What we really cannot afford is to see him go to a rival, particularly in England while next season we waste chance after chance again with Jesus missing/offside, Sterling powder puff scuffs straight at the keeper and pressure on our midfield to do a striker’s job.

We must sign Haaland or Kane at any cost.

Yeah, however we try to define it, we are crying out for a clinical player in that position.
