Brighton (A) | Post-Match Thread

I haven't read every post on this thread but don't understand why so far no post I have read has mentioned what Welbeck does with his left arm. Take a look at the slow motion replays: he throws his left arm across Cancelo as part of a deliberate, and legitimate, attempt to get in front of our defender, and as a consequence the natural upward movement of Cancelo's left arm as he sprints back means that his arm makes contact with Welbeck's - but it is Welbeck that has made a deliberate unnatural arm movement in this situation, and as his arm comes down it locks with Cancelo's causing both players to fall. That is not even a foul by either player.
I saw that on the Short Highlights - that was my reason in an earlier post to state it was never a sending off.

Can anyone shed light on cause of the blow up with pep and staff, something to do with their first goal?

It was dead soft, but he shouldn't be giving the referee a decision to make. 1-0 and ten minutes into the game. Playing with ten men for 80 mins in a stadium with fans for the whole game was always going to be a big ask.

I get that but he wasn't really given a decision, if it was a tackle gone wrong than you could make that argument but poor Cancelo barely did anything. Yes, playing 80 mins without much on the line was always going to be demanding

Lol yeh I bet that was going through his mind as he chased down welbeck.

Is Guardiola going to overthink the CL final, and pull a doozy like playing that midget love child of his?

Surely not. He must have learnt.

Apologies if already shown but watch this clip. Welbeck clearly catches Cancelo’s leg first, sending him tumbling. Should have been a foul to us!

The ref was looking straight at this too yet had no hesitation in producing a red.
The whole thing is bent, i mean did they honestly think that Wellbad was certain to score. As i said earlier it's a fucking joke!

Playing 90 minutes (including injury time) with ten men eventually wore us down , a stupid mistake by Rodri gave Brighton all the encourgement needed , at seventy minutes our lads were running in treacle after a long hard season and the inevtiable happened. When you include a completely inept referee and VAR clown then the outcome was always going to be a Brighton win at 12/1 , in fact when we went 2-0 up the odds were at 33/1 for a Brighton win , someone has made a killing , maybe Attwell & Moss have a couple of accounts in the Cayman Islands.

I wonder how Brighton's owner made his fortune..?

Garcia is shite fair enough but is that really the sole explanation or justification for a collapse 2-0 up and losing in that manner. Our backline was doing something I can't really say. Stones was great but Dias was also messing up his part, and our defensive mid in Rodri was getting run past like he did not exist.

Ref was a clown for sure. But still, I do believe it was manageable to keep it 2-0. Only good can come from it I suppose.

The red card was bullshit, but this was an opportunity to practice attack vs defence in a game that didn't matter, and ultimately, we conceded 3 goals in 26 minutes against the 17th place (at the time) team. At 1-0 up, we could forgive the team for not holding onto a lead, but once we get to 2-0, we really should be able to see out the game. I wonder if the bigger issue wasn't the referee, but the fact that the players didn't want to risk themselves before the CL final.

My thoughts EXACTLY!

Tight 4-4-1. No brainer!

Enough said. Absolutely bizarre decision to play him.
Blame the manager , not the player.

I agree the decision to have him in the squad never mind the team is bizarre in the circumstances, but again that's Pep's call.

What about Stuart Atwell then. Horrendous refereeing, absolute disgrace
Yes but what about rodris back pass, what baout our players not trying to stop the cross that lead to the free header goal. Ye refree is horrendous but still we played our part as well.

In addition to the poor referee, I blame three players; Cancelo, Rodri, and Garcia for the loss.

Cancelo: He put himself in this situation, he could have easily control the ball, but failed, which lead to the red card incident. This was not the first time he tried and failed to control the ball this way. His performance lately was far below his best.

Rodri: That pass gave Brighton a lifeline and the ability to return for the match. I don't know what he was thinking, such a mistake in the final would be catastrophic.

Garcia: His performance was the worst this season. I don't know why Pep brought him on? He is either did not have the desire or not mentally ready. His performance was disastrous.

Pep has the opportunity to make history. He is supposed to have learned a lot from the performance of his players and mistakes made by some. In the final, such a performance will not be acceptable. We have a historic opportunity that must not be wasted. Pep and the players must be at their best level in the final. We don't want anything else right now except winning the Champions League. Losing it to this Chelsea would be doubly sad.
