Brighton (A) | Post-Match Thread

The truth is the entire trajectory of the match was set in the first five minutes, when they were kicking us all over the park, and we weren't getting a fucking thing from Attwell. The best thing I can say about the red card is that it is worthy of Salah on the cheating scale, and that's saying something. Welbeck should have got a yellow both for impeding the defender — he initiates contact, it couldn't be clearer — and then simulating by diving. I try not to watch these matches with blue specs on, but you'd have to be downright blind not to see the injustices that were perpetrated right through this match.
Here's my problem. It's all very well to say the writing's on the wall for the 29th. That the word's gone out to screw us royally. That we can't risk any kind of situation that leads to a red card or a penalty. That we can be whacked with total impunity — studs up tackles like the one on Gundogan, open season lads, do what you like to them — including in the box. But our defenders have got to be able to do their job, for God's sake! And that is all that Cancelo was doing. There can be no defence without some sort of contact. It's a contact sport.
We might as well just give Chelsea the trophy if that's the case. Don't know if I even want to watch it now.
By the way, never had an opinion about Brighton one way or the other. I was ready to recognise that they've played some pretty good football this season. But their fans are c**ts of the first order. Booing Gundogan after that tackle!! Dipper level. Repulsive.

Awful officiating from start to finish. I think it shows how refs have got used to having no crowd.

Strangely I’m 50/50 on the sending off itself....I can’t make my mind up.

Doesn’t matter in the end other than our game plan to get the right amount of fitness in everyone’s legs went out the window.

I listened on Talkshite, Danny Murphy and who ever did the commentary were debating whether Atwell was trying to get himself reffing in the Ryman league next season. They both could not believe the ref's performance, inept. The problem was it destabilised the team allowing no control. After saying that the nominal 4-4-1 with Garcia as right back, Rodri and Mahrez offered nothing to help out.
Oh well hopefully we avoided any serious injuries.

What did he do/say? Digs about money, and letting little old Brighton score, maybe? I assumed that the bust up at FT was to do with the Gundogan tackle. Maybe not. I liked Potter as well. Ah well, you live and learn.

And that risk of injury came from the referee allowing them to foul with impunity.
The very fact that Brighton players weren't bothered at all of potentially putting City players out of the CL final (or even out of next season!) says a fucking lot about them and their manager.

This

It seems as if Brighton were under orders. I have seen Brighton play a few times this season and they have never played like last night.

Also try to play football the correct way.
Last night was so out of character even their manager and back toom staff behaved oddly.

Didnt think Brighton had a dirty player in their squad !.

Brighton were great when we won the league at their place.

Forget the Cancelo red card
Forget the fouls on Gundy
Forget the pen on Jesus
We should be all in on the wrap around out of control tackle on Jesus, the ball was long gone, and the Brighton player had left the ground to commit a foul, that was played as an advantage to Brighton!! One of the worst decisions I have ever witnessed, yellow card & a City free kick. I’m sure Despot Dermot will explain away all 3 of the above decisions with “he got it right, but it’s wrong, var had no choice, so the correct decision was made because the law states clear & obvious blah blah blah” this decision exposes every other in the game, but because of the timing, where it was on the pitch and it’s City, it will be considered insignificant & get no coverage, when in reality it exposes a shocking truth of incompetency & possibly corruption

Yeah football fans have long memories and we won't forget those fuckers in a hurry. Hopefully some day soon we will have the pleasure of sending them and their arsehole manager down were they rightfully belong.
With respect to the final the omens are not good but no use been negative about things we first need to put in a grade A performance and see where that takes us.

It feels like we're being gaslighted! We can all see the shocking refereeing decisions, backed up by VAR. The Jesus penalty, Cancelo red, not a red for studs up challenge above the knee on Gundog, and not showing the offside lines for their third goal. Looked marginal to me, so should have shown the lines, or at least shown CAR we're looking at potential off side. Yet the BT commentary and post match analysis ignore all of this. Match of the day say Cancelo not a red but ignore rest of the bad decisions. No mention anywhere else. It's like all teh media outlets have joined together to make us feel like we're cracking up. Best way to fuck'em - win the Champs leagu (please Pep!)

Potter showed himself to be an arsehole last night and so did their fans and some of their clogging players. Why were their fans booing Foden from the first minute FFS? The commentary team were totally biased. The tackle on Gundogan was a clear straight red card. I don't expect teams to bow down to us but Brighton were classless last night on and off the field.
It's a shame because I have always thought their fans were great. The sort of attitudes we saw last night are what happens when elements of the media and broadcasters run a witchunt against our club, our owner, and our fans. That's why we have to call out our critics and not ignore them.

i thought the same .
And to think the Brighton owner made his fortune through betting...,,,, yeah nothing to see here at all. I’m not usually one to jump on the conspiracy bandwagon but yesterday was as ‘clear and obvious’ as I’ve seen
