Shemnel misunderstood the point I was making. he referred to a tweet forecasting an epidemic based on a 25% more contagious variant but these models make assumptions. One is that the virus will stay static. It wont. That was all I was saying.
Didn't misunderstand, just decided to bury it down

Keep an eye on Argentina. Maybe an unexplained blip but reported 40k new cases yesterday. A week ago the average daily cases was 20k, Could be a glitch. Will the trend continue?

I’ve a colleague of mine, 45, who hasn’t taken up the AZ jab offered as he’s waiting to be offered Pfizer. He was asking me yesterday where he could go to get it (his GP hasn’t signed up to do the under 50s). Not that I approve of being picky, I work alongside him and would rather he got jabbed. Any ideas?

Just booked my jab for tomorrow! (I’m 34).

NHS website is a piece of piss, fingers crossed I don’t feel too rough after but it’s got to be done.

My mental health is at rock bottom at the moment so I hope having it will give me a bit of a boost.

Maybe City should hire whoever built the NHS bookings website to sort our ticketing.

Each jab brings us nearer to better days..I'm hoping my second jab gets brought forward

Indeed - fingers crossed! Objectively I know the vaccine campaign is working but all the doom and gloom lately of the India variant had knocked all my confidence, combined with the fact I’m really anxious about doing stuff I’ve always loved - namely going to gigs and watching City. Right now I don’t fancy doing either, but reckon once I’ve had a jab I’ll be more confident.

Gigs and city are just around the corner..

Does anyone know if they do end of day "spares" at the Etihad? Taking someone on Saturday and it would be nice if I could help avoid one going to waste

Yay! Here comes the Argentinian variant!
No they’ve just pinched ours

With both the Brazilian and UK variants circulating widely in Argentina, the patients intensive care doctor Vanina Edul is now seeing at the Fernández public hospital in Buenos Aires are dying faster, and younger: one recent victim was just 42 when he died.

“I am seeing people die in less than a week – young patients unresponsive to treatment. You administer oxygen, do all the mechanics – turn them face down, face up – but it doesn’t work. Then there are other patients whose oxygenation level is not so bad – but they die anyway,” Edul says.

A devastating second wave of Covid cases has caught Argentina off-guard, with relaxed restrictions and a low vaccination rate. Cases have risen from a daily total of about 5,000 in early March to a record 350,00 this week, while deaths surged from 112 at the start of March to a record 744 on Tuesday. On Wednesday daily contagions set a new record, just under 40,0000 cases, while deaths dropped to

Download the data in a csv from our world in data. Pick up the large movers. But it doesn't tell you why. It just tells you something is happening.
