Apparently Sterling's contract is being prioritised over Kane's (and presumably any other new striker's) deal.

I feel lost when it comes to Raheem nowadays, he's given us so much since joining and is obviously just short of confidence but I can't get my head around the idea of him being worth a bigger and better contract.

Debruyne will definitely be playing as a RCM next season and this makes Sterling the best winger to have on that wing.
Because we all know how good partnership they have and are used to play together.

For this purpose I see why his contract is a priority.. Of course as a LW - he isn't / wasn't / won't be as good, even though that like against Liverpool at Anfield - he was magnificent, but on average he couldn't deliver there and also Phil is untouchable there.

It's like why Pep wants to buy Jack Grealish so desperately - because he sees the potential of Grealish-Foden partnership on the left wing.

And if you add Kane to that...

I've not given up on Sterling. He's still only 26 and has been fantastic for City playing so many games for us and England over the past few seasons. Every player has had a drop off in that time. Gundogan many wanted out. Bernardo lost his form. Mahrez...FFS! But for some reason because Sterling is guilty of missing some easy chances, he's completely written off.

Sterling has scored the same number of goals as Mahrez and Foden this season despite clearly struggling for form, which is partly down to the change in approach with us playing a false 9 and wanting ball retention over direct running and movement in behind. He's been below par without a doubt. He's played in almost 200 games for us over the past 4 seasons and has scored over 90 goals in that time. The three seasons before this he managed 79 goals in 149 games including 15 in 27 CL games. Not bad at all.

Still a couple of years away from being in his prime as a winger/forward as well. We'd be silly to cash in on him. An intense few seasons, a change in tactics this season. No off-season last summer... plenty of excuses and we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

It could be all down to Sterling.
If he's not in the starting line up for the CL Final (which i hope he isn't and said without malice) I can see him throwing his Toys out of the pram. If so the question is where would he go and who could afford him. I have long thought he sees himself at Madrid but they are skint. An exchange involving Kane. ? Not many options open and if Pep goes for Grealish there is surely no room for him.

It's genuinely amazing the kind of shite people manage to read into Sterling's character from nothing.

Why would he throw his toys out of the pram? When has he ever done that? Why would anyone who's watched him for the last 5 years and knows his background, and seen his contributions to the club ever think he'd do that?

Stones, Zinchenko, Gundogan, and Mahrez all had to be VERY patient over multiple years before really solidifying their places in the team. Sterling will have seen that up close and know that there's a starting position available if he's patient and works hard for it.

If we're in a winning position in the CL final (hopefully) towards the end, then Sterling will be the 1st player I imagine to be brought on by Pep as a gesture of his appreciation of his work this season.

The question is, who's he coming on for in the CL final? Mendy, Garcia or Ake?

Kun should be the first to come on if Pep wants to show appreciation

We are not talking about the last five years are we. Everyones happy when they are playing.
He is a current England International who has lost his place in the team
Do you think he will stay and play second fiddle to Foden. ?
On the bench for biggest game in his Career .
Try thinking outside the box and look at the bigger picture instead of blind allegiance .

He does not merit an improved contract on the basis of last half of this Season.

When has Sterling ever done anything to make a neutral think he's going to throw his toys out of the pram?

Answer - Never.

He's a professional footballer. He knows people come in and out of teams, it's happened to him before, it'll happen again. He's about to get a new contract from the club, he's going to start at the Euros and he just signed a massive deal to be the face of New Balance football. He'll be just fine.
