Jack Grealish

Not heard anything regarding Kane, but yeah would be some outlay that. Wonder if there might be a high profile departure if we did actually get both?
Kane for Kun is like for like and by that I mean striker for striker.
Add Grealish to the mix and there has to be a casualty.
But who?

Purely in terms of squad places, then I guess Mendy could be shipped out on loan (with Zinchenko/Cancelo/Ake covering left back). Would leave us with a pretty top heavy squad though, and not easy to keep everyone happy.

I feel like there would definitely have to be if Grealish is coming in - just don’t see how we add another player of his calibre in to the mix with the options we currently have. You don’t buy someone for £60-80m without serious intentions for him to be a key player.

Grealish would obviously be able to split his time between LW and CM, but we already have Foden, Sterling and Torres for the former (not including Jesus who occasionally plays there) and Gundo, KDB and Bernardo for the latter.

Just don’t see where he fits in without a major departure - Sterling’s poor form and fall down the pecking order makes him stick out in this conversation, but I just can’t see him leaving, especially with all the contract talk.

Jesus could be a likely departure, but is a bit of a non-factor given he’s predominantly a CF and Kane ticks that box in terms of incomings.

There’s the false 9 argument, but you don’t spend £100m+ on Kane to then play that system.

As talented as Grealish is and I think he would be absolutely fantastic for us, I just don’t see the logic behind the transfer in it’s current guise.

Just can't see it, there'd have to be a pretty major outgoing in my opinion.

For this to seem likely then the departure would have to seem likely too and, yes, there's plenty of time before next season but I just don't see the silence on such matters indicating anything other than just that.

Raz probably
I may be premature with this but when the kid Kayky arrives is he out on loan or added to the squad?
If it’s the latter would he have a claim on Raz’s position.
I just have no clue about wages/contracts and wether it’s feasible to move him on?

The established players that might be unhappy with lack of game time would be Laporte, Mendy, and probably Jesus. If we sign another striker, say Kane, then Jesus would know he’s never going to break the 3,000 minute mark, so he’d be wise to move. Sterling’s form has dropped, but he’s played a staggering amount of football, so I cannot see him leaving.

Mahrez has two years left on his contract, which means he needs to shit or get off the pot regarding an extension to his present contract - if indeed he's been offered one, which I assume he has.

If he has rebuffed an offer of extending then we'll be looking to offload in the next 12 months, because he's not a time-served player like Kompany, Silva or Aguero, where the club will let the player leave after their contract ends due to their legacy and loyalty. Not that I want Mahrez to leave, because he's been fucking brilliant, but maybe they'll be a bit more space in 6 to 12 months.

Obviously, this could be a load of shit I'm spouting, but it's just an idea to be shot down.

Correct me if I’m wrong but Cancelo can play both sides IIRC so agree Mendy may be surplus but tbh Ric I was thinking of more offensive options.
On current form, and we know Pep can turn form around, I can only see Sterling being displaced?

It’s dependent on work permits I think. I read the other day he’s not far off the criteria already but would need Fluminense to go further into Copa Libertadores. Assume if he does get one he’d be amongst the EDS group; first team training and some minutes here and there.

Grealish would be brilliant for us so fingers crossed Ric’s info is good.

Yeah if you asked me at the start of the season, I’d have put Mahrez in the outgoing category, but he’s a bonafide starter in this team after the last few months he’s had. I can’t see the club wanting to get rid, nor Mahrez particularly pushing for a move.

I’d be surprised to see him go, but perhaps a CL win with us (meaning he’s won it all) and a major departure from a PSG/Madrid type club and they could come calling for him and turn his head. You’d think the club must know that’s a real possibility though if Grealish is close to being done.

Yeah, I don't think the club want to get rid, but 'if' Mahrez is not open to extending, then I think the club will look at recouping their initial outlay (at least), especially as his performances this season will mean quite a few top teams may pay top whack.

We didn't even take the full quota up.
