Jack Grealish

Everyone always assumes all players are fit and in form when trying to find space for a player or justify his signing.

It's very rarely the case where you have a whole squad to choose from and they're all in form. Plus we have too many players with question marks about their form.

Sterling - hit and miss and has been miss for a while. Has fundamental technical problems in his game that won't change.

Gundo - Had a great season but has had poor seasons. No evidence to suggest he will be any better next season.

Bernardo - Had one immense season and some average ones. Still not sure which Bernardo we are going to get. He was better this season, but not consistently.

Mahrez - Great season, again, has been poor or average more than he's been great.

Torres - still a kid and will be hit and miss.

Jesus - no longer a kid and will be hit and miss.

KDB will be his imperious self and Foden will continue to get better but beyond them two, there's an awful lot of question marks to be had about what sort of form the others will be in. The same applies to Grealish, of course, but it's no bad thing having players with technical quality like his.

There's also the age angle of one or two, even Kevin. He will need to be looked after.

I don't disagree on that but at the minute Grealish does seem happy to stay at Villa.
His club, he's treated like royalty and is the main man, almost runs the place.

But if PEP is knocking on his door, can he resist or would he or anyone for that matter?

Coached by the best, playing with the best.

Right so you think the way we played this season to cope without a striker is the way we're going to play from now on.

Personally I think the fact we're obviously buying a marquee striker is proof we're going to go back to playing how Pep's played for the other 11 seasons of his managerial career, with a big focus on the wings.

I think we are actually a lot closer this season to his Barca sides than we were in 2017-2019. Kane is perfect for our current set up if we get him, he links up very well and is a great passer.

The longer build up and increased number of short passes amongst forwards has really helped us overcome the parked buses this year & also negated our weakness to counter attacks. I’m fairly confident it will continue anyway.

Excellent post, and easy to forget a lot of it when we are flying and firing on all cylinders.

Pep’s used inverted wingers most of his time here regardless of who’s upfront barring the 17/18 season. Yesterdays team with Grealish in Sterlings position and Kane in Gabby’s is where I see it going personally. Foden and Sterling either side of Kane would be effective though so lets see.

Grealish is great in tight spaces, creative and a fighter, exactly what Pep looks for. He is also deceptively quick and strong.

I really don't see how people could have any objections. He would improve our squad.

No idea if he is coming or not but would be very happy if he were.

Exactly, the move before Azpilcueta got sent off. He took people out of the game with ease. They guy is super talented. Stats will always be lower than his level as it is down to the club he is at. Get him in before someone else does.

Anyone who would be happy to see Jesus moved on after yesterday, I just don't understand. He's fucking incredible, he's confident, and if I were Pep I would be extremely tempted to start him in the final.

If he wanted a move, that's different. But he seems happy enough here. Call him a winger, call him a striker, call him whatever you want. Just give him a new contract ASAP.

We can fit Grealish into the squad as it is. He can play in the middle or out wide so we could fit him somewhere. We didn't replace David Silva last year, so we're a midfielder down on where we were 12 months ago and we know Pep likes lots of midfielders and options. He is a quality player, exactly the type of player Pep likes.

Add in that Aguero and Garcia are certain leavers that opens up two spaces in our current squad for two incomings. We won't replace Garcia with a defender so makes sense to look at the midfield area.

The issue I think we'll have is the cost of it. Striker had to be the priority and if it is Kane that will set us back £100m +. To fork out another £70m + with no real outgoings, I'm not sure how feasible that is. But then again, I have no clue about what we can afford, who else is potentially leaving within the current squad and how much we'll recoup from the CFG players.

If a striker comes, there is no more space in the squad. For anyone, in any posotion, of any age or nationality. It is that simple, one in, one out, while we are in the CL and build a squad for all competitions. Garcia leaving makes no difference, he never counted anyway, as a club trained/academy player. Sergio makes no difference, if he is replaced by a striker. Carson frees up a space, but only if replaced by a club trained keeper.

Imo, we Did replace David Silva.

With Foden.

Good succession planning ? Another year of ferna - trialing switching Gundo back and playing grealish and getting grealish settled (as we know it takes players most of a season to get used to what pep wants generally).

Then next year we are set in midfield for a few more years and Ferna steps into a coaching role.

Only way I see it working, or as you say one is out the door and I know where I would put my money on that front.

Possibly. Someone still has to make way. If not from a squad balance point, then purely from a squad quota. Possibly economically as well.

Grealish replaces Torres.

Torres replaces Jesus

Jesus goes to spurs as a makeweight

Kane replaces Kun

Torres plays through the middle as rotation for Kane. Foden\Sterling\Mahrez\Grealish as the wingers.

That's how I see it.
Yes, it's entirely possible,Spurs would be stupid not to take Jesus because he's not a bad player, especially for them he would be absolutely great. But we'll see, for us he could be a backup winger
