Harry Kane

Kane is best for the position, he’s a Pep player creative, defends and scores. He also wants to get even better that’s a scary thought. theres only two maybe better strikers in the world ,one is Lewandowski the other is Maybe, Haaland. No one else is better than Kane. The club want the best replacement he’s the best replacement.
If Kane wants to get better ole's the man to do it
Bwhahahahaha Bwhahahahaha

We will not sign Kane, he simply does not fit the profile we are working to. We want players who can give us ten years of service, someone like Torres. We would spend big but it would have to be Mbappe or Harland.

Aguero wasn't offered a new deal because we couldn't get him out on the pitch.

IMO Sterling shouldn't be offered a new deal because he isn't currently good enough to be on the pitch.

You're correct that the money side of things doesn't stack up. I doubt they would stack up for many clubs, never mind one that announced a £126m financial loss for the year. We could be looking at a potential outlay of £75m on a new contract over the next 4 or 5 years. I don't care how marketable he is, we do not get that money back. The decision should be made purely on what he brings to us on the field, that is the only way the numbers can possibly stack up. At the moment the equilibrium between performance v salary must be as messed up as any player in football.

I think we can all agree, that the days of the cost of players and their wages at City not mattering, are long gone. If we are paying someone £10-15m per annum, I would like to think we can be relatively confident about what they might bring to the table season on season. We have no idea which Sterling turns up next year. Given we have to balance the books, I would rather this money was given to Kane or Haaland if tough decisions have to be made.
We have no idea that Haaland would fit into the team
I suspect he will
However we know sterling scores circa 25 goals a season
His new contract will probably be incentivised as well which reduces the risk
Should we have got rid of Stones and Silva when they were struggling
In my opinion he deserves a break for previous performances
Only time will tell

The decision will be primarily a financial one.

Its simple for Kane get taught by the best manager in the world and win trophies

or get taught by Gollum who’s tactics are sit back and counter and not win a trophy

Repetition doesn‘t make this right.

It may be our ideal model but our executives don’t have tunnel vision. They appear to be pragmatic businessmen. As with Mahrez, they will no doubt be prepared to deviate from the model when they perceive an opportunity.

Sterling has achieved 25 goals in a season twice. His tally this season is more in keeping with the rest of his career. I am not saying he can’t get back to 25+ but his high scoring seasons were the anomalies, not the norm. He has earned a bad spell and I think most fans would be more acceptant to that, if it weren’t for his contract situation.

As far as I am aware (happy to be corrected) most incentives at City are based around team performance rather than individual performance. I think the days of appearance and goal bonuses are largely gone. Effectively an individual can be turd all season, but if the side wins the Prem and erm Champions League, said player probably gets close to the max payout they are entitled to under their contract. Therefore if the club does as expected each year, Sterling is getting an absolute wedge, no matter what he does. The only way we save money here, is if the team does shite and none of us want that.

It’s easy to judge with the benefit of hindsight, but the Stones situation was similar, albeit with smaller figures involved. By all accounts he was done here and the club willing to listen to offers for him last summer, as he only had 2 years left on his contract. If we had been offering him a new £150k pw contract 12 months ago, this place would have gone into meltdown. Obviously we have a different outlook now.

Sterling has 2 years left on his deal, I would prefer the club take the same approach as they did with Stones and see how he performs next year, before committing to what could be an insane contract offer. If he performs, he gets a new deal and everyone’s happy. If he doesn’t, he gets shipped out and we are able to assign his wages elsewhere.

The fear I have, is that we miss out on Kane because of lack of finances. It would be crazy to potentially lose out on someone who actually does guarantee 25+ goals a season, because we are stuck with a £300k pw bill for Sterling for the next 5 years.

I see no reason why this can't be happening now. The people involved in negotiating transfers are not involved in preparing the team for Saturday so their full focus could be on this.
